The Ontario ,contribution to the
British Red Cross fund has now pas-
sed the 'record million and a half to-
tal given last year, being now $11538,-
000, with cheques still pouring in.
We axe pleased to state that Mrs.
J. J. White who has been seriaualy
ill for the past two months. and al-
though still confined to her bed, is

Ree. J. W. Baird preached to the
young peoole on Sunday, and on rues
Bax evening the James Street League
held a Rally Evening when speeches
and experiences were given by see-
eral of the members. Rev. Baird
goes to Clinton next Sunday, ex-
changing pulpits with Rev. Agnew of
that town.
The ladies' Guild of the Trivitt
Memorial Church in conjunction with
the Girls' Auxiliary, will hold their
annual Bazaar this year on Friday, Dec
tat. In the evening the Rev. Arthur
Carlisle. B, A., late Chaplain o£ the
18th Battalion, who. has just aeturn-
ed from the front, will be, present and
give an address on his experiences and
event; of the war.
The last day of the rabbit shooting
for the present at ]east, Nov. 15th,
seas by all reports the best day of the
season, as allshooters reported good
bags—just how many it is not to
say. The depression seems toprevail
that hunters may still go out after
rabbits with a ferret and bag, but
that is a mistake. It may not be done,
and any good sport will say it should
never be done.

Canadians at Ypres in 1915, .ped it ,is

using a reproduction of this striking
picture on their calendars for next

he became gradually weaker since.

JOHNS—HARDMAN—A quiet but
pretty wedding was solemnized on the
afternoon of Nov. 8, at the home of
Mt and alts. J. T. Hardman, 52 West-
moreland Ave., Toronto, when their
daughter, Nellie snMa.ry, was united in
marriage to Roger Franklin Johns of
Toronto, formerly of Exeter, and son
of Mr. and Mrs. Well, Johns. The
Rev. A. G Hudson officiated and
1s1isl Grace Hardman, sister of the -
bride played the wedding music. The
bride, unattended, was given Away by
her father and looked charming, at
tired in white net over white silk and
wore c, lovely bouquet of bridal roses.
She also wore a beautiful gold brace-
let, the gilt of the groom. The
groom's gift to the pianist was -a
wrist watch. After a dainty supmer.
was served the happy couple left for
an eastern trip, the bride travelling'
in a navy blue suit, with hat to
match. On their .return Mn and Mrs.
Johns wili reside in Toronto.
DIED IN 'SARNIA,—On Saturday
last the death took place at herh•ome
in S,rnia. ot Mrs. Charles Eacrett, at
the age of 70 years. Deceased
was in :excellent health until she sus-
tained a stroke of paralysis a week
before. She was a daughter of the
late Richard Welsh, and was born
in Usborne Township, residing there
until her marriage to Mr. Eacrett, af-
ter which they lived in Exeter until
about 25 years agog when they moved
to Sarnia. Mrs. Eacrett was an es-
timable lady, and highly respected and
esteemed. She is survived by her
husband, two daughters, Mrs. Brown
and Mr,. Fuller, and one . son Ray,
all o+ Sarnia; also one brother, John
Welsh and ,one sister, Mrs. John
Snell; both of Exeter. The funeral
toar place at Sarnia on Monday after-
noon. Amalie g those who attended the
funeral were \Ir. John Welsh, Mr.
Richard 'Welsh, atifr. A, E, Fuke of Ex-

Mrs. and Miss Senior spent Saturday
in London. ' .
The home of Mr, and Mrs. Wililam
Routley. London Road south, was very
much disturbed on Friday afternoon
lest, uhen a rather hard looking char-
acter entered and made himself very
much at home. The funny part about
the strange visitor was that he had
nothing whatever to say, Fearing
howerier, that he might be contemp-
lating something devilish, word was
at once despatched to Exeter for a
constable. •;t Tr, C. S. Sanders was soon
on the scene and the unwelcome vis-
itor was put to the test, wheat it was
found that he was a poor deaf chert
aimlessly wandering around, not to do
haat} •but only to seek a repast•Ior hie
hurigzy . stomach. The constable re-
ceived a dollar for his trouble, paid
out seventy-five cents for a rig in
which . to. go down with, gave the
poor uhfortunate fifty cents and sent
him on his way rejoicing., and the
goad -net ured constable was a quarter
put an th_e deal.

AGED RESIDENT PASSES. -The

ening last, following a stroke of par-
iclysis ear§ weeks before of an • aged
and oldtinte resident of this :dis-
trict in the person of Leonard Mc-'
Taggart of Exeter North, at the age
of 81 years, - 3 months and 20 days.
The late Mr. McTaggart had been in
his usual health until he suffered the
stroke as stated above. Born in the
County ,of Etasting, Ontario, he, with
hie parets, the late Mr. and Mrs. Sam-
uel James McTaggart, moved in 1849
to the State of Wisconsin, where
they ✓remained three years, after
which they moved to Huron County
and s.ettlecl on the London Road north
and until death claimed him he had
resided in this neighborhood, making
him one of the longest continuous re-
sidents o± the district. Deceased was
bard -working, careful and saving in
his habits and had accumulated a
goodly. portion of this 'world's goods.
Hiswife predeceased him several
Years and he leaves no family. One
brother,,. Peter, and one sister, Mrs.
Ridhard Downey, survive, The fun -
