The stock sale of Mr, Samuel Brocic
of Etmviile on. Friday last brought

Tuesday was the first day of Spring
but the weather was not at all spring-

good most of the time, and this is
not usual for this month, particularly
when the snow had all disappeared a

Chancellor Cowles spoke interest-
ingly of educational work in connect-
ion with Victoria College in James
Street Church Sunday morning, and
Prof. Brown; spoke on the same sub-
ject in the eataning in Main Street
church.
The Adult Bible Class of James
Street Church held a pleasant At
Homy at the ,basement of the church
on Friday evening, when a goodly
number were present, an excellent
supper served turd a choice program
rendered.
\1r. Ernest Davis has purchased a
lot Irom Mr. W, J. Beer near the Sta-
tion Road and will build a home
thereon, using the frame building
which was formerly a part of Mr. P.
Bawden's residence, and which was
moved last week.
Mr. John Shute of Usborne, who
had his hip broken last week when his
sleigh was upset, is doing very nicely
He will be laid up for some weeks
and his friends will hope for speedy
recovery, but will miss the usual sup-
ply of maple syrup this, year.
A pleasant gathering took place at
the home of Mr. aped Mrs. Jonathan
Kydd Exeter North, on Friday night
last, the occasion being presentations
to. two soldiers, Privates Wm. Kydd
their son, and Ira Taylor. The fal-

ing success. The several characters
in the. affair were well taken by B.
W. is Beavers as interlocutor and W
Martin, W. Statham, L. Wilson, E.
Southcot-t;,T. Nelson and F. Wells as
"blacks, 11r. Nelson was stage and
property, manager. Many funny local
hits were made. The Exeter Sym-
phony Orchestra, under the direction
of 'S. C.. Hanna, furnished excellent
music: ,Ln, addition a ,program was
given; consisting of a solo by F. G.
Klippert, duet by Messrs. Phillips and
Kinsman, quartettes by Messrs. Kins-
inan ;Senior, Philips and Gillies, also
by Privates Cornish, Tucker, Wells
and GauLbriel, carnet solo, by E. Tre-
ble. and violin solo by A. J. Perritt.
The entertainment 'vas given under
the rauspices of the Ladiies Patriotic
League and they netted a nice sum
of money.

farewell sermotnand say good-bye to
the Trivitt Memorial Church congre-
gation on Sunday next, In the ev-
ening the soldiers of the 161st Bat-
talion, will attend the church in body,
and a number of them will assist the'
choir in special. music.
The third successful, euchre was held
in the Town Hall on Friday evening
and a pleasant time spent Private
Pritchard of the Princess Patricia; Bat-
talion. who with Rev. Mr, Collins and
.alajor Heaman, had been addressing a
recruiting meeting at Dashwood drop-
ped ,in on their return from that vil-
lage, and gave an interesting ten-min-
ute address on the doings at the bat-
tle front where "the "Pats" won
undying glory. .
