Arthur Strung of Galt the owner of
Byrne's livery stable, which was burn

in that cite on Tuesday and brought

Even with the present inland re-
venue taxes, including the income tax,
the United States Government faces
a deficit, and congress may be con-
vened to deal with the situation early
in September. Evidently the only
recourse is direct taxation. The in-
come .tax will have to be increased
and extended- and some scientific
method of direct •taxation devised to
maks :good the shortage occasioned
by the .tariiff break dawn.
The I.O,O.F. District meeting was
held in Clinton on Friday afternoon,
when Mr Scott of Seaforth was elect-
ed District Deputy Grand Master for
the ensuing .yedr, and A. W. Robin
son District Secretary -Treasurer.
All Lodges were reported to be in
a healthy condition. A motion was
passed that in future the District
