HE APPROVES OF TANGO. Jewish Rabbi' Says It Is Beautifuly If Well Danced. SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 27.—Rabbi Jacob Nieto, addressing the congrega- tion of Sherith Israel yesterday, warmly commended the tange and kindred dances. "The old padres in the early days of the California missions were wise men," said the rabbi. '`Every Sun- day afternoon they , let the people dance, and watched them while they did so. In the middle ages the Jewish rabbis had the young people dance every Sunday afternoon, in the pres- enceof the parents, and all enjoyed it. "What we need is more common sense and less theology. The tango, danced by cultured persons, is beauti- fully pleasing; by the awkward it ap- pears vulgar. You can take a relig- ious ceremony and make it a farce." Carson Prepared To Co-operate. LONDON, Jan. 27. Sir Edward Carson, leader of the Ulsterites, in a speech at Lincoln last night, said that he was ready to join John Red- mond, the Irish Nationalist leader, in an attempt to extend real local gov- ernment to Ireland, or to remove any abuses or injustices, social or relig- ious. Referring to Mr. Redmond'S speech at Waterford on Sunday, he declared: lastfromi the word his side thisw I fths s we are in a lamentable arid critical state of affairs. I am a man of peace, but not of peace at any price." In his speech Mr. Redmond said that if any change was made in this home rule bill it 'Would be to buy' the good will of the opponents of the bill, and he added that he saw no prosi pests of their good will. being Pur- chased at any price whatever.
