Friends received word here this
week of the death of Mrs. Paul Pow-
ell of Turnberry Township ,which oc-
curred on Monday night last, Besides
her husband she leaves two daugh-
ters and one son.

oped berries. It is not so remarkable
to see berries this time of the year,
it is singular to have them growing

The schedule of convictions •by
magistrates in Huron County for the
quarter ending August 31, --issued by
Crown Attorney Seager, shows but
one case tried• -a breach of the Lic-
ense Act, in which Inspector Tor-
rance
was the prosecutor, and rhe
fine imposed was $10 and costs. That
is a pretty good showing for so large
a county as Huron.
A Zurich Correspondent says, -
Duck raffles before Thanksgiving in
this district are as regular as the.
holiday itself. The ducks raised here
are large and fat at this time. Mr.
Jos. Lawson the bridge contractor,
and a party from Exeter, came up in
a motor to a raffle close by town.
The party stopped here on their way
home, They had in the car 21 ducks,
7 geese and 11 turkeys.
The Thanksgiving day turkey will
be dear this year. Throughout the
turkey districts there is a great scar-
city of birds owing to the cold, wet
spring, In one instanee a farmer set
72 eggs and his flock of turkey chicks
numbered five for the season. This
condition is found to prevail generally
so far as turkeys are concerned. There
are more ducks, geese and chickens
than for some years past. The govern
ment returns for the month of August
just issued, show the number of fowl
of all kinds in the province was 11,624,
615, against 11,586,214 or 338,400 more
forAugust of this year,
