Who would have reciprocity now
with Winnipeg wheat prices fifteen
cent. higher than Minneapolis, ac-
cording to latest market figures.
Lord Strathcona last week rele-
bratecl his Ord birthday. He is in ex-
'ceilent health and able to attend to
biz duties as high commissioner for
Canada every day,
It is wonderful the concern Felt
by Liberal newspapers for the'tealtb
of Premier Borden. On the best ;tf
.authority it is stated that he is in
the best of health.
The Borden Government is build-
ing interior terminal elevators. This
business of keeping promises while
elections are a long way off is en-
ough to deprive the Government of
the respect of their predecessors
The navy will cost `he British
people thiss year $:230,000,000. There
is nothing mythical about such an
emergency and yet Canada, thanks to
the partisan senate, does nothing to
relieve either the British taxpayer or
to help the Empire.
The defeat of reciprocity is bring-
ing millions of United. States _apital
to Canada for the employment o1
Canadian workmen And to think that
the Laurier Government went to the
country on a policy of keeping this
money out of Canada.

Sow Winter
Wheat Like
A .Blind. Man
OPEN your eyes to the fact that there is a better way to grow
winter wheat. This way is one which, by tactual scientific field
tests made throughout Canada, has proven that it will produce
the largest amount of the best wheat to the acre.
The splendid restults achieved through this method depend mostly
upon the start you snake. The vitally important part of the work Is
done at seeding time, so start NOW to learn all about this method,
Our Scientific Bureau will tell you about it, free.
Progressive farmers will apply at seeding time a fertilizer containing
2% Nitrogen, 8% Phosphoric Acid and 8% POTASH -better still a
2-8-10. Such a fertilizer insures a good stand before the commence-
ment of winter -gives the crop a greater degree of protection from the
frosts -promotes a rapid and early growth in the spring, and produces
a bountiful crop of high grade wheat:
But perhaps your dealer cannot furnish you with a 10% POTASH
fertilizer. lzer. If he cannot, don't take a substitutes because a substtutej..
low grade fertilizer will NOT produce the results you want, The thins
to do is to get more POTASH and add to the fertilizer your dealer
Can give you to increase it to a 10% POTASH fertilizer. We f
will tell you, free, just how to do this. It is simple, easy, and
pays for itself many times over.. FREE
Or you can mix your fertilizer at home, if you wish,/ Scientific Bureau will tell you all about it.

Spending.
Spending itt Merely puffing out your
personality, It is like the trailing
Leathers to a peacock --like the long
train to a fashionable wotuau. Why
does the barefoot negro boy acquire
four yellow dogs? They add to his.
personality. Why do we all.-sbopglrls
and plumbers, fashionable literary
hacks and gentlemanly financial pi-
rates -spend every cent we get, hon-
estly and dishonestly, wisely and otb-
erwisely? We stretch out as far as we
can, and vaulty, my friend, is the only
balloon that never bursts. Why does
the stag grow horns until it can hard-
ly make its way through the forest?
And why did Absalom wear his locks
so long that theycaught in an oak
tree and held hint until Joel) and his
men came np? Vanity!. Vaulty! In
some tribes they worship the fat man,
who has put much food under his glis-
tening skin. Among other tribes they
worship you for the servants you em-
ploy without using, for the food ,you
purchase without eating. To spend to
use is vulgtir; to spend to waste is the
only admirable and admired spending•.

A Safe Topic.
In his book "Tbe Balkan War" Mr
Philip Gibbs, the war correspondent.
says that the official regulations for
war correspondents who were, sent out
to the Balkans were appallingly severe
Mr: Gibbs found that he was forbid.
den to describe the disposition of
troops, to give the navies bf generals,
the names and numbers of the wound
ed, the success or failure of Rillgarten
troops, the state of the soldiers' health,
the conditions of the -climate, and so
on. When the censor bad told, him: all
this Mr. Gibbs asked him politely:.
"Will you tell me, sir, if there is any-
thing about which we shall be allowed
to write?"
Tbe censor thought deeply for a mo
rent and then answered quite gravely:
"There is much interest in Bulgarian
literature."
"Perhaps," Mr. Gibbs suggested sar
t'astically, "I may also be permitted to
describe the song of the birds?"
"By all means,"said the censor cor-
dially.
Official Cats.
Nowadays there do not appear to be
any human rat catchers on the estab-
lishment of the civil service, but some
4overnment offices maintain cats for
this work. At the general postoftice.
for example, there is a staff of cats.

his majesty's mails from rats. In re-

among military stores they are at first
sent for one or two voyages ona war-

Drops and Minims.
Drops vary In size Recording to the
'•onditions under which they are pro-
Muced. Sorne are large and some are
small, some long and some short. The
drop of the druggist is called a "min-
im," of which 480 go to make a fluid
ounce and 76,800 to make a gallon. An
actual experiment In filling a one
ounce measure will probably show
that 400 drops makes a fluid ounce.
