Miss Jean Tom, daughter of In-
spector Tom, has succeeded in rak-
ing a scholarship in her Third Year
in Arts at Toronto University. Tliis
is her third scholarship. '
The last of the G. T. R. Railway
debentures payable by Exeter i
paid the last meeting of the Coun-
cil. These debentures have been paid
annually for twenty years,
Miss Katie Collins, daughter of Mrs.
R. H Collins, is to be congratulated
on her excellent standing in the Third
Year Arts Course at Toronto, she
having taken First Class Honors in
nearly every subject.
The Gwent Choir's, singing was ex-
ceptionally good, voices being well
balanced and Mr. George F. Davies
the conductor deserves credit for

FELL FROM HIS BARN.
Wingham, June 10. -David Keith,.
aged 52 years, of Teeswater, is in the
local hospital with his back broken,
and such serious internal hurts that
little hope is held out for his recov-
ery, If he should survive Ihe' win be
a helpless cripple .for the rest of his
life according to the physicians. Keith
was helping at a barn raising and was
np 25 feet fixing a plate in .place,
when in some manner he was knock-
ed off He landed flat on his Sack,
and when picked up it was found
that his back had been broken about
half -way down. Two ribs which were
fractured had cut into the spinal
column

PAINFUL ACCIDENT -Mr. Thos,
Fisher of the 3rd concession of Us -
borne met with a painful accident on.
Thursday last. He was assisting in
loading gravel at Wood's ,gravel pit
when a large portion of the overhang-
ing earth caved in and came in con-
tact with his left leg, spraining the
ligaments surrounding the ankle very
badly. As a result Mr. Fisher will
be confined to the house for some-
time.
DE GEER-O'NEIL.-A pretty wed
ding was solemnized June 4, in Tor-
onto, when Miss Irene, daughter of
Mrs Ralph. O'Neil, ivas' united in mar-
riage to Mr. Herman Carel De Geer
of Richmond, Va. The couple were
attendee only by the bride's ,niece,
Miss Dorothy O'Neil, who acted as
flower girl. The bride was given away
by her brother, Mr. George O'Neil of
London.; She was attired in a -iavy
blue tailored suit of French charmeuse

left for New York, from where they
will sail for a four months' trip in
Europe Mrs. DeGeer was a former.

DEATH OF MRS, HANCOCK.-
The sad news arrived here on Friday,
evening last of the death at Maid-
stone Sask., that day at noon of
Thersa Fanny Creech, wife of Mrr
Frank Hancock,and daughter of Mr.
and Mrs James Creech ,of Exeter.
The late Mrs. Hancock had reached
had reached the age of 45 years tnd.
9 months, Deceased had not been en-
joying the hest of health for ,wo
or three years, and '.the 'shock - of
the death of her daughter, Mrs. n;ast
just a week previously, was too •nuch
and she passed away, She was born
in Exeter and resided here till mar-
riage 24 years ago, when she and her
husband moved to Ernerado, N. Dak,
and six years ago to Maidstone, Saslt
She and Mr, Hancock spent last win-
ter with her parents here. Deceased
;was of very kindly and cheerful dis-
position and her many relatives and
friends greatly regret her demise,
Besides the husband and parents,,the
is survived by two brothers and one
sister, James Creech of New York
State, Thomas and Miss Jessie of
Exeter all of who;n have the sytn-
athy` of their friends, The funeral
