Saturday afternoon the first game of
baseball in the church league took
place when James-st, defeated Main
street .11-9, The garne was a'pretty
fair exhibition and was witnessed by
a good crowd.
The James Street and Caven Mem
oria' baseball teams played a short
game. on Monday evening, the former
winning by a large score. As the
game was only four innings it does
not count as a league game.
Baseball apparently, is not suppos-
ed to beBaseball unless there is a
little jangling, but in a church league
of all home brews the jangiing should
be reduced to a minimum 'at least.,
If the boys and. men irf theseteams
cannot play the game in a sportman-
like manner, and Win pr lose with a
good grace the quicker they quit -he
betterfor the game and for their
own self respect, Self control is one
of the necessities before we can ex-
pect to control others, and .unless
those interested in the game can con
tiol themselves at any stage of rhe
g:tine they would be wise to q%it.
The e games this year should be of
much benefit, :morally as` well as nhy,
sically, but only if properly controll-
ed •And let it be definately ender -
stood that an umpire's decision is fin-
al, it does not matter whether you
think he made a mistake. Let it also
be understood that as long as he is
umpiring he controls the game.
