Vict eria Day was celebrated here
on Monday. Although the weather
was cool a large crowd came to town
to patronize the baseball boys who
got up the sports of the day. The
Strathroy team arrived here in four
autoes. A double header was played
The one in the morning resulted in
a tie game, 5-5, of ten innings. King
pitched in great form and showed
quite plainly that his rest during the
winter did not affect his mighty ury
es. In the afternoon, game Teddy
pitched the pill for our boys. He
got into form about the fifth inning
and *from there on was a puzzle to
the visitors, Hindmarsh pitched for
the Strathroy team and ritched splen-
didly. , The 'score stood 5-4 .in our
favor These games were the best
played on our grounds for some lime
and it has been remarked repeatedly
that they . were clean from start to
finish and no disputes. In the even
ing a concert was given in the Town
Hall to a packed house, Mr. Kenny,
the comedian and Miss Stocks, elo-
cutionist. of Toronto furnished the
r» cgranz which was a treat and well
received Mr. Kenny is a funny man
and gave the people the aches. Miss
Stocks selections were of a splendid
choice and gave her ample opportun-
ity to display her abilities. The whole
day proved a success financially and
the boys are well pleased. The team
deserves to be congratulated on their
enterprise
Considerable excitement was caus-
ed in town on Tuesday when the fire
bele rang. It was soon found out that
Henry ,Haist's straw stack and shed
were on fire. The farmers and vil-
lagersreached the farm in a hurry
and worked hard and saved the barn
from being destroyed. The burning
building was only about six feet from
the bank barn, hence it took.determ-
ined work on the part of the tire -
fighters to save the barn. It is
thought the fire originated from the
children playing with fire crackers,
