based on the recent census In the United
States are not yet' available, but some
figures recently published show'ithatt for
tho five years from, 1902 to 1907,
there was an increase, of 449,per cent) in
the number of rural phones In the
United States. Erpai cion was greasi-

though this may be accounted for by
the fact that these were late in taacing

in Canada. These 'will, no doubt, be
available after the June census is pub
Iished. That they will show a very
large number of; p'ho'nes in use in Can-

to doubt. The movement, however, has
only had its begiinning in Canada in
recent years, end the nest decade will
show a much larger development of the

HIGH PRICE FOR HORSES.
Mr: Larry E0r) y; of the :.'and Cances-
aloe of McGillivray delivered a teatn of
fine geldings here res Mr,,; McCaig of
5fontreal on Thursday last, for which
he received the handsome sum of
7c1n.o This h s Ys only one instance of
many where farmers ot this and d oilier
sections 171roughout Ontario rccoivo
anywhere, according to quality, from
X45 $70,00
to 00:00 a team for their
horses, and even, higher prices than
these havis been received right In this
section. Then some people will tell !us
that Reciprocity will be a good thing
for the farmer. Tile farmer would do
well to study hie interests at this par-
ticular time, as there can be no doubt
but 'what 'reciprocity would depreciate
every Canadian horse at least 25'
per cent. in Huron County along, in
one year eliding June 30th • ,1900, the
farmers sold $678,618.00 worth of
horses for the, great West and city niar-
Ikets. It has been estimated that the
horse market of Oetario is ,worth to the
farmer over ;1.0,000,000 a year. The
farmer should consider this and not al-
low an iitdust(ry so ,valuable to slip
through their hands just to satisfy a
lot of clap -trap politicans. Then again
what can be said of horses can be said
of cattle, hogs, sheep, eggs, fruit and
other contn,odities.
