at their worst, especially amoog

The British Society of Naval

the opinion that the limit has by

growth M England, Battleships
have increased in the last ten
years 00 per cent. in displacement,
35 per cent. in,dength, 17 per cent,

two knots au hour has been gained,
and the weight of metal discharged
in a broadside has 'made the amaz-

Considering the matter of cost,
it was said that two of the newest
vessels eould be built for about the
price of three of the earlier and
smaller pre -Dreadnought type. The
two 'modem vessels -a-mild, how-

ameot one-third greater than that
of the three small vessels combin-
ed, and their working cast and ex-
pensiveness in maintamance and

eensiderations Professor J, J.
Welch thought the policy of budd-
ing big ships was justified, The
unsettled question, one which nay -

greater size would not prove an ad-

NO PLACE FOR UNDERTAKERS
There is at least one spot in the
world where everybody is happy,
prosperous and well. The only
people who don't get on there are
cheenists, doctors and undertak-

Madrid, Spain, disease and death
are practically unknown. Two years
ago, the local chemist, in despair,
gave up the sale of drugs, and
took to selling sweet stuffs an
confectionery. As there hadn't
been a death for eight years, half
the cemetery has been turned into
a pleasure garden, and the under-
taker has fled -the Place. The doc-
