Dr. Oaw and Wilson were immediate- ly sent for but they fouud it necessary to amputate the whole hand with the exception of the thumb. Much syn3- patby is expressed for the young fel- low in his sad misfortune. Nannow ESCAPE. -What might -have proved .a very serious accident happen- ed to David Pfaff at the Eidt & Ehler grist mill on Thursday morning. The mill men were engaged in installing a new piece of machinery, known as a rolled oatchopper, which specially pre- pares tbeoats for borses. A workman was driving a nail into the elevator when Mr. Pfaff, wbo happened in, vol- unteered his assistance in bolding the affair. In doing -so he turned his back to a revolving shaft and the tail of his coat caught in the key on the shaft. In a second the coat was wound up and he was whirling around the shaft at a terrific speed. After several revolu- tions he was thrown violently to the floor, every stitch of clothing having been torn off him, with the exception of his boots. It is expected that no ser- ious injury was received although his hack was hurt and his head, arms and legs considerably brnised. The clothes were torn in shreds. Alter being re - clothed he was able to walk down to the village to have his injuries attend- ed to. Mr. Pfaff's escape was very lucky as touch more serious injuries might easily have resulted. Fifteen years. ago Wm. Fried had his arm taken off in this mill in .a similar ac- cident.
