The third session of the ninth Par-
liament closed on Saturday last, hav-
ing lasted nearly eight months or ex-
actly 227 days since the opening on the
12th of March. The length of this ses-
sion beats all records. It has been an

ant acts, among which is one provid-
ing for the building of another trans-
continental railway under the name
of the Grand Trunk Patella;

DEATH OF MR,. MERNIOTT.-One af-
ter another the pioneers of Grand
Bend are departing from among us,
leaving only the lustre of their untarn-
ished names and the example of their
puhlic and private life for the guidance
and emulation of the younger genera-
ation. This week it becomes our daty
to record the death of Mr. Sohn Mer -
;iota who passed away on Friday at
his late residence, Lot 5 N.B. The
deceased was a victim of cancer and
had suffered most intensely during the
past six months, so that death amie
as a. great relief to him.' • During his
distressing illness, he bore his suffer-
ing with an uncomplaining fortitude
,which indicated his sincere trust in
be.tter things beyond. Mr. Merriott
was a. staunch and true man in every
eence of the term: he was one of Na-
tere's noblemen'. His high sense of in-
tegrity and moral rectitude won him
the coradence and respect of his M -
lows, while his many noble qualities of
heed Ansi heart made him a pleasant
