Saturday from a pleasant visiting with

Miss Edith Sanders, who has been on

Mrs. Joicey Horn, who has been in
the Northwest for thepast two months
visiting her sons, returned home Mon-
day evening. She is much taken up
with the country and intends moving
there as soon as she disposes of her

Mr, and Mrs. Win. Finger, of Battle
Creek. Minh., were the guests of the
latter's sister, Mrs. Henry Reumohr,
for a few days during the week. They
are attending the Toronto Exhibition
at present but intend returning to
town on Saturday to spend a week.
Mr.Alfred Sheere returned from the
West on Monday. About three weeks
agci 'while engaged laying brick in Man-
itou, Man., the scaffold, on which he
was standing, gave way and he fell to
the ground, and broke his collar bone.
The bone was set and the arm bound
to the body, in which position he still
carries it. We trust it will soon be
well.

PRESENTATION.—After a period of
eight years of good, faithful work as
teaaeh in union section No. 18 West
Williams and McGillivray, Mr. D. S.
McPherson recently resigned and ac-
cepted the position of Principal of the
Wallacebnrg school, His connection
with his old pupils ceased on Friday,
Aug. 28th and the scholars took the
advantage of the occasion to testify
their regard for theft' old teacher and
to present him with`a little souvenir of
his work among them. Miss Flossie
Atmore read a well -worded address
while at the proper time Miss Millie
Wilson stepped for -ward and presented
Mr. McPherson with a handsome ring,,
Alonzo Atmore was voted to the chair
and after Mr. McPherson had made :a
very feeling reply to the kind 'words
contained in the address. Robt. Smith
was called on for a short speech and
heartily seconded all that' bad been
said in the address concerning Mr. Mc
Pherson and his work. Messrs. James
Ellis and John 13. ,Smith both made
capital addresses, expressing their sor-
row at losing such a capable: teacher.
Mr. McPherson then took the oppor-
tunity of thanking all, especially: the
parents of the scholars for, the able
and cheerful assistance they had al-
ways rendered him. The children then
united in singing ',"God. be with you
till we meet again," and the progra.rrl
was brought to a close each of the
scholars and visitors individually 'wish-
ing ;Mr. McPherson every success in
his new home.'"

Mr. J. D. Aitchesun bas rented his
farm on the 3rd concession, to Mr.
Geo. Dickson, of McKillop, for three
years, and intends having a sale of his
effects on Sept. 18. He is going to
Stratfordto engage in the hardware
business. -One evening recently .Mir.
Geo. Dale, of the Huron Road, had the
lnisfortune to have a valuable horse
run down and killed on the track. The
animal in some way broke out of the
field and strayed down the track get-
ting over the cattle guard at the side
road. Mr. Dale did not know any-
thing of the accident until he went to
look for the horse the next morning.
The horse was a four-year-old gelding
and Mr. Dale had. refused $200 for him.
MARRIED.—On Wednesday, Aug. 28,
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Cole,

the place.—By the overturning of a
lamp on Wednesday evening in Mrs.
Smyth's grocery store, there came
near being a fire, but by the prompt
assistance of the citizens the flames
were subdued.
WON AGAIN.—The Wingham ball
team was defeated here Monday morn-
ing by the Irish nine. Score 19 to 4.

but the second game was called off on
account of the heavy rain in the after-
noon.
WEDDINGS.—Wedding bells seem

carried away to distant parts to grace

of football was played in our town last
Friday evening between the Dashwood
team and our boys. The game was a
