"The wise mother who is planning a Summer off for herself and children. will rear in mind that occanpation is as harmonizing a factor of daily life abroad as at home, and will take with her books and various other material which can be turned toaccountnotonly on rainy days, but during a part of each day. Idleness, bears, in my. mind the same relation to recreation that license does to liberty: one is.bad, the other good; hence the children have someslight task to perform 'through out the Summer vacation, derive more benefitfrom f m their vacation than t an those who are left wholly to their own de- vices." -This paragraph is taken from a. paper by Mrs.Theodore. W.Birney,in the August Delineator, which contains much helpful advice on the treatment of the child when away from home during the Summer. in the Words, "In the midst of. Iffe we are in {tenth," Scar,.e.r had therief subsided Over the sad and melancholy death of dear little "Jim" Acheson, when the town is again overcast with deep gloom at the death of one of Ex- eter's fair daughters, in the person of Miss Bila i.forlock, who crossed the dark stream, which separates us frons eternity, about eleven o'clock on Fri- day night last. That one so young, so healthy to 4111 appearances, should be suddenly called away by tbe Angel of death seems almost incredible. Miss Morlock had been slightly indisposed some little time previous to her death, but no one had the faintest ideathat the end was so near. About the first of the month she and ber mother con- templated making a visit to friends in the States, but it• was about then she was taken worse and was compelled to take her bed. A medical examination revealed the fact that she was suffer- ing from an acute attack of appendici- tis, •together with other complications. An operation was deemed advisable for the removal of the trouble and on Thursday it was performed. The op- eration was a success in every partic- ular, which fact was subsequently re- vealed at the post-mortem held, but the other diseases being of a malignant type her case assumed a. serious nature and gradually sinking she succumbed quietly and .almost imperceptibly to the dread destroyer. She was cared .for by her immediate relatives and medical advisers most assiduously and kind] but nohu Y,ansa power could avert the stroke of death. The deceas- ed was a young lady of good qualities, nice appear;ence, energetic and indus- trious and ever ready to lend a helping hand to those desiring her aid. She wasa valued member of the Jaynes street choir, who, with her large circle of friends, will deeply mourn her early decease. The funeral took place on Monday afternoon from the residence of Mr. H. Buckingham, at which place she died, to the Crediton cemetery, that village being her former home. The. Rev. Geo. Brown, of Toronto, con- ducted the funeral service, while the pall -bearers were Messrs. J. G. Stan - bury, W. W. Taman, Cr $. Sanders, N. Taylor, Geo. Eacrett and I. Bissell.
