The oyster supper mentioned In last
week's issne which was to have _taken
place on Thanksgiving evening, was
"-postponed till Saturday evening,
when a. large et owd assembled and an
enjoyable evening spent. The oysters
were served about nine o'clock and
• judging by the way theY disappeared
were much enjoyed by everyone. pre-
sent. Supper being over Mr1SiQ was
furnished by the Zurich _String Band
and local talent, but, the star feature
of the evening was an . Indian war
dance, which was supplied by one of
our suburban residents. 'A song en-
• titled. "Only One" wasvery creditably'
rendered by our respected townsman,

spersed to their several homes, feeling
satisfied with their evening's enjoy-

be remembered by a number of people
in town, having lived in tbese parts
some years ago, died very suddenly at
his home in Adelaide on Wednesday.

of the Hay Agricultural society met
in the Town Hall Monday. The list of
prize winners was gone over and other
business transacted. -Mr. Casper Web-
er has returned from Sebewaing, Mich.,
where he has been working on a large
beet sugar factory erected there. -The
regular meeting of the W.C.T.U. was
held in the Evangelical church, Mon-
day evening. Miss Steinbach gave a

at an increase in salary of $40. Mr.
Stelck's salary is now $440. The school
board of Zurich evidently appreciate'
Mr. Stelck's efforts, as is shown by the
increase in salary. Mr. Stelek is a
young roan of sterling character, with

Mr. John Moore has secured the store
formerly occupied by Miss Gilpin and
has opened a hardware besiness. As
Mr. Moore has the reputation of being
a first-class workman we hope he will
receive encouragement from the cone
munity. Miss Gilpin has moved her
millinery establishment to the former
hardware store. -Miss L. Hilderbrand,
of Acton, spent a few days here, dur-
ing the week, the gnest of her brother.
-Mr. C. Kearns has gone to Toronto
to resume his studies. -Mrs. 'Wilson
has left for her futtire home in Blyth.
Miss Jennie O'Brien, of London, bas
been engaged as principal of the Gran-
ton school for the balance of theyear.
-The many friends a Rev. and Mrs.
Gilmour will deeply sympathize with
them in the loss by death of their lit-
tle infant daughter. -Our popular
young doctor, Mr. A. Brown, is seri-
ously ill at Stratford hospital with an
attack of typhoid fever. His many
friends,here and vicinity look for his
speedy recovery. -The beautiful archi-
tectural structure now under construe -
tion by the Granton Presbyterians on
Main street, north, reflects great ceedit
on the architect, Mr. Barber, of Strat-
ford, as well as on the contractor of
the stone end brick work, Mr. James
Finch, of St. Malys. For appearance
it will be one of the neatest churches,
in design for miles around: The con-
tract for the seating has been let to the
Globe Furniture Co., of Walkerville
and the iron and tinsmithing to Wm.
Moore, of Kirkton.-Special Thanks-
giving services were held on Sunday.
The Rev. John Ayearst, B.A_., occupied
the pulpit morning and evening. On
Monday evening the ladies gave one 'of
their famous fowl suppers. A splendid
program of exceptional merit was Ten-
dered, consisting of speeches, music,
etc., while the.choir lent much to the
evening's entertainment. Speeches
were given by the following gentlemen,

cemben-The meeting of the Hensall
Branch, British and Foreign Bible So-
ciety, was held in St. Paul's church on
Wednesday evening. Rev. Mr. Moore -
house, of Christ church, London, de-
livered an address, and the local min-
isters also took part -Mr. Thos. Welsh
has disposed of his residence on Oxford
street, to Mr. J. E. McDonald. Mr.
Welsh is one of our most enterprising
builders and deserves much credit for
the many good buildings he has erect-
ed in the village. -Miss Godfrey, of
Toronto, spent a few days in town
during the week, the guest of Mrs. X.
Sutherland -Mr. Albert Whitesides
