Like the running,r brook, the
red blood that flows through

The springs of red blood are

Winnipeg, Sept. 16. ----The vexed

years, was once more up for cllieuselen
'old, but, as in previous years, the
highest court refused to make
y change in the "foot -note," und add -
d empliaeis by refusing even to debate
the eubjeet. This end was not reached
without the eollStamption of conaderable
time, however, and the application of
elosure was a source of irritation which
euniiderable number of delegates were
unable to conceal. Several amendments
were offered, mainly in the direction of
making the provision admonitory rather
than peremptory, but all met deNat un-
der huge avalanehea of opinion. Tho
eubject was 'handled amid a constant
buzz of excitement owing to the many
conflicting views, and the tangled web
at times taxed the minds of the bright-
est intellects, but the veteran General
Superintendent, with that rare genius
for presiding which he always exhibits,
ran stifely through, and after moments
of the highest tension added a dash of
humor to lighten the situation. no
application of closure was a disappoint-
ment to many people, and has causeti

eettling n delicate question. They also

Two Young Women Lore Their Lives
While Boating,
Port Ilope, Sept. 10. -One of the sad-
dest drowning accidents in years hap-
pened here last night, when Miss Annie
Midden, daughter of Captain James
Haddon, and Miss Annie Trawin, daugh-
ter of Mr. Henry Trawin of this town,
lost their lives while boating outside
the harbor. There were four young
ladies in the boat at the time of the
accident, the alisses Hadden, Miss Flo
Embleton and Miss Trawin. The young
Indies were apparently trying to make
landing at the steps on the east side
of the east pier, when the accident hap-
pened. All were supposed to have been
standing upright in the boat, holding on
to the edge of the pier, when the boat
shoved out, precipitating all four into
the water. John Fox, a young man who
was close by, managed to rescue two
of them, but before he could get the re-
maining two out of tire water they were
beyond- medical aid. Drs. Corbett, Ald-
rich and Powers were summoned as
quickly as possible, but could render no
assistance.

SHOT DOWN IN COLD BLOOD,
$t, Thomas, Sept. I3. ---The little vil-
lage of Bismark was stirred up to a
high pitch of excitement this after-
noon, caused by the !wrest and con-
feesion of a murderer east it few miles
from that place. Chief Detective john
A. Murray, of Toronto, accompanied
by Des. Lawrence and Dimcombe, of
this city, left for Bismark at 7 o'clock
this morning with the intention of
having the body of Willie Freeman,
whO,it was supposed,died from wounds
received from a shot gun while in the
net of playing with the Bente last Mon-
day, eXimmed and a post mortem held
to be wed at the adjourned inquest on

loborer upon the Freeman farm, un-
der arrest, charged with the murder
of Willie Freeman'who is the 15 -years -
old and the a dopted son of Daniel
Freeman, a farmer living about three
miles from Bismarck. Shortly after
the arrest, King confessed. He said
he did not know the gun was loaded.
When Detective Murray told the pris-
oner that his story regarding the Heel.
dental shooting of the lad was most
improbable, Ring collapsed and made
h clean breast of the whole thing. He
said that he committed the crime be.
cause he was jealous of the boy Mid
that if he could rid himself of him he
might enjoy many privileges that were
now denied him. In telatmg the story
of the shooting thP murderer said that
while the little fellow was out playing
in the drive shed, he stole upstairs.
and resting the gun on the floor aimed
at Willie's eye and milled the trigger.
He then ran ont and told the boy's par-
ents the concocted accidental story
The prisoner is an Englishman, 25 years
of age, and came to work for the Free-
man's six years ago. He was brought
to this city on a freight train and did
not appear to be much agitated. Crown
Attorney D. J. Donaone deserves ranch
credit for the capable manner in which
he has handled the caee. He was the
first to observe the suspicious circum-
stances attached to the tragedy.
