cord the death of Thomas 13iggart,
which sad event occurred at the resi-

day, the cause being cancer of the
stomach. Deceased was born in God-
erich township and WaS il) his 07th
year. He carried a long service medal
and was the oldest member af the 33rd

Jan Raid. The funeral, which took
place on Monday, was largely attend-

Neil, assisted by Rev. Mr. Yelland.

Exorrrixa Mil -B. -There was quite
an exciting time here last week in the
effort to catch a young fellow, whom
it was alleged was making away with
a stolen horse. Atter the failure to
catch him on the bridge, Constable
laundry, of Goderich, and Fritz Gemine
hardh the latter on wheel, started
down south on the lake shore road,
and went as far as St. Joseph, in the
hope of catching him. But they had
evidently got ahead of the youth, for
Gerninbarclt returned to town, and
later in the day, hearing that the fel-
low had been seen not far from here,
again started out, and had the good
fortune to overtake him. Attempting
to capture the boy, the latter put whip
to the horse, and Geminhardt followed
until running into a sand heap, the
latter was thrown from his wheel and
had to discontimie pursuit. Report
said that a couple of shots were ex-
changed. The boy was captured later
and taken to Goderich. The Goderich
Signal says: A rather complicated
case involving the ownership of a
horse was tried in the Police Cotirt on
Tuesday. The complainant was Wm.
McGrrory, of Ashfield. and the defend-
ant was his nephew, Harold McGrory,
of Detroit. The younger 1VIcGrory
took the horse from his uncle's farm
on Wednesda,y and after an exciting
chase was caught at Grand Bend and
arrested by Constable Gundry on Sat-
nrday morning. The evidence to the
ownership of the horse was so conflic-
ting that Magistrate Seeger dismissed
the case. It is understood. that the
•
parties came to an agreement between
themselves.
