They would pay the money back to
Mr. Toole when they should return to
make the final settlement, and mean-
time they wished to strike while the
iron was hot in Mr. Wilson's case. Mr.
Toole agreed to let them have the
money, and went to his bank et New-
market and drew out thdrequired sum.
Be handed it to the men, and has not
since then seen them. He went home
and it was not Icing before he learned
that Mr. Wilson had received no offer
whatever for his farm. In view of that
he forced the satchel open, and to his
great dismay found nothing but peb-
bles, and a note saying "When you
open this we will be far away." Mr.
Toole was so much disconcerted when
he realized the game that had been
played. that for days he said nothing
about it to the authorities. Ou Mon-
day, however, he was threatened with
nervous collapse, so on Tuesday he
came in to Toronto and reported the
occurrence to Judge McDougall, who
referred him to inspector Stark. He
gave a description of the men, but the
inspector has up to the present with-
held it. High Constable Ramseen has
since been investigating the case, but
as yet no trace of the swindlers has
been found.

of those who have arrived are members
of the various committees, which must
meet before the convention in order to
make out their reports. The only legis-
lation of importance to come before the
convention is a bill to have all the mem-
bers of the Board of Control elected. The
board consists of twenty members, who
serve two years, ten retiring each year.
Under the present regulations live of
these are elected and five appointed by
the Grand Master. Efforts to pass a by.
law making all members of the board
elective have been made before, but have
always failed. The chief business to
come before the convention is the elec-
tion of officers. The Deputy Grand Mas-

Toronto and Mr. 3. H. Burritt of Pem-
