Sports—Base Ball.
Now that spring has come sports
for the snmmer are being talked up
and a general interest is being mani-
fested. Judging from the many excit-
ing local games played last season we
think our boys are capable of putting
a team second to none in the field. A
meeting is called for Friday night for
the purpose of organization and it is
requested that there be a large attend-
ance.
newt Kill the Birds.
With the return of spring and the re-
turn of spring birds, there is liable to
be a revival of the practice of destroy-
ing the little feathered songsters with
catapults and other weapons. There
is no excuse for this cruel practice, and
we hope that the boys of Exeter will
employ their activities in protect-
ing the birds instead of injuring them.
It would be something to be' proud of
if we could say that an innocent bird
is ever wantonly killed in Exeter.
Naturalists tell us that the birds are
necessary for the existence of vegeta-
tion, and if they were all killed off trees,
Shrubs and plants of all ° kinds would
scarcely be able to withstand the at-
tacks of the insects which would infest
them.
