Royal Commission Will Ex- periment on Unhealthy Chicago, Nov. 5.-A despatch to The Record -Herald from London says that scientists and agriculturists interested in Dr. Koch's tuberculosis'theory ex- pect that the tra, nsmissibllity or non - transmissibility of bovine tuberculosis to human beings will he absolutely solved within a year. The royal com- mission on tuberculosis has begun ex- periments on a farm provided by the Government.. It is understood thht-ri•te, special feature of .the experiment 'veill• be tests made with diseased animals. - Professor Edmund Symes Thompson, F.R.C.P., con.sulting physician of the Hospital for COnsumption at Brompton, who is considered the high- est British authority an tuberculosis, points out that experience has proved that healthy persons constantly escape contagion to which the weak and dis- eased speedily succumb. He says that hitherto attetnpts to transmit human tubercle to coyrs and oxen have been confined to healthy animals. This, he asserts, is unsatisfactory. The cows selected 'should be. in poor condition in order to obtain more convincing evi- dence.. English scientists are alive to the importance of the subject and are spar- ing no effort to reach the truth by in- dependent investigation. So far as these investig•atioes have gone they have terided to show that Dr. Koch has been guilty of hasty decluetions and neglectful of essential conditions in his experiments.
