July Was Hot.
It did not need the assertion of the
weather manager to infortn the people
of Ontario that the month of July,
which has just passed, Was one of the
hottest on record. They knew it. The
statistics, however, are interesting,
and they declare that there has not
been so hot a July since that ,of .1808.
The average temperature forthe month
was 73. This is six •degrees higher
than the average for July .since the
observatory has been established. In

Advertising Stray Stock.
Persons finding stray animals about
their premises should be careful to re-
port same or advertise them at ono,,
as they can be held liable for reten--
tion of same. Farmers sometimes hope
that by keeping an animal for a few
days they will save a neighbor the
cost of advertising. The kindness is
all right, and may be appreciated in
many cases, hut it does not relieve the
person so detaining the animal from
liability. They should be advertised
at once.
