case an operation was recommended
being the only thing that would be
likely to save his life. The operation
was performed at the hands of Dr.

the shock of the operation but his

his sofferings. His remains were tak-

for him by young anti old was seen by
tbe sympathetic tears that gathered
in every eye. Several of his neighbors
and co-workers in the &berth spoke
words of sympathy and eulogy during
the solemn memorial service. As Bible

and as public school teacher his place
will be hard to fill. He came here to

Walkerville, May 14.—The premises
and plant of the Walkeeville Metch
Co. were totally destroyed by fire ear-
ly this morning. -About 10.30 the
watchman at Gardner Bros. & Co.'s
basket factery noticed the flames issu-
ing from the tipper story, on the south.
end, and sent in an alarm. The fire
brigade responded promptly, but when
it arrived ou the scene the three upper
stories were enveloped in flames. The
men worked hard, and for a time seem-
ed to check- the flames, but on account
of the very inflammable nature of the
contents of the building they soon
burst forth again fiercer than ever.,
The fire brigade then abandone.d any
hope of saving the building and con-
fined itself to saying it frame building
used as o box factory, just scmthof
the match company's building and the
match factory. In this it succeeded,
tart inside of two hours nothing was
left of the match fectory but the smoke

Blytle: Another disastrous fire 'vis-
ited this place early on Tuesday morn-
ing when the roller flour mills, opera-
ted by Mr. W. H. Finnemore, were to-
tally destroyed, together with the
office and elevator. The fire was first
discovered by Mr. James Sims, whose
residence was only a few yards from
the burning structure. It was four
o'clock when Mr. Sims was awakened
and at that time both mill and elevat-
or, although separated by several feet,
were in the throes of the firy element.
There was every evidence to show that
the fire had been burning for at least
one hour before being discovered. The
alarm was soundecl and the fire engine
and firemen responded promptly knit
werennable to do anything towards
saving either the mill or the elevator.
The boiler room and engine room,
with their contents, and wood in the
yard were saved by the good work of
the brigade.
