Thee never was, and never will be, a
universal panacea, in one remedy, for all
ills to which flesh is heir ---the very nature
of many curatives being such that were
the germs of other and differently seated
diseases rooted in the system of the
patient—what would relieve one 01 in
turn would aggravate the other. We
have however, in Quinine Wine, when
obtainable in a sound enadulterated
state, a remedy for many and grevious ills.

it relieves the drooping spirits of those
‘vith whom a chronic state of morbid des-
pondency and lack of interest in life is a
disease, and, by tranquilizing the nerves,
disposes to sound and refreshing sleep—
imparts vigor to the action of the blood,
which, being stimulated, courses through-
out the veins, strengthening the healthy
animal functions of the system, thereby
making activity a necessary result,
strengthening the frame, and giving life
to the digestive organs, which naturally
demand increased substance—result, im-
proved appetite. Northrop & Lyman of
Toronto, have given to the public their
superior Quinine Wine at the usual rate,
and, gauged by the opinion of scientists,
this wine approaches nearest perfection of
any in the market. All druggists sell it.

Cure Through the Use of Dr. Wil -

Few bodily afflictions are more ter
rible than disease of the heart. To
live in constant dread and expectation
of death, sudden and with last fare-
wells unspoken, is for most people
more awful to conteraplate than the
most serious lingering illness. The
slightest excitement brings suffering
and danger to such people.
For several years Mrs. Gravel, Wife
of P.H.A. Gravel, foreman in Barry's
cigar factory, St. Jonh's subrb, Que-
bec, was s-uch a sufferer, but thanks
to Dr. Willams' Pink Pills she is
again in the eujoyment of good
health. Mrs. Gravel says:
"My general health was bad for
several years, my appetite was poor,
an.d 1 was easily tired. but it was the
frequent sharp pains and violent pal-
pitation of my heart -which caused me
the greatest alarm. I tried many
medicines, and was treated by several
doctors, but in vain. Finally I be-
came so poorly that I was not able
to do any household work, and was
frequently confiued to my bed. At
the suggestion of one of rav friends I
decided to try Dr. Williams' Pink
Pills. After taking a few boxes I be-
gan. to gain new strength and vigor.
The pains in my heart were less fre-
quent, and less severe, and in every
way my health was improving. I
continued using the pills until I had
taken eight boxes, when I had com-
pletely recovered my health.. I have
gained in flesh; my appetite is good,
and I am able to do all my household
work without feeling the awful fa-
tigue I was before subject to. I am

THE MAJOR'S STORY.
t Gave a Terrible Shock to the Ro-

"Major," said1 lie roinsintie maiden,
"what was the most eventful moment
of your life—the moment upon which
all your future depended ? Surely you
have had such a moment? You have
been in many battles. There must
have been a supreme moment for you—
a moment that meant all in all to you"
"Yes" replied the warrior as be pull
ed his goatee and reflected, "there was
such a moment—once."
Then he was silent. His thoughts
seemed to wander back, and the gil,
anxious to bear the story of
Moat disastrous chances,
Of moving accidents by flood and field,
Of hairbreadth 'capes i' the imminent deadly
breach,
Of being taken by the insolent toe,
clapped her hands and rapturously ex-
claimed:
"Oh, how perfectly lovely! How I
wish I were a man, so that I could go
to war and have thrilling escapes and
do heroic things! How glorious it must
be to be able, when the danger le all
past, to relate how, single handed, you
held the foe at bay until re -enforce -
meats arived from the distant fort!
Now tell me all about it, major—about
the moment that was so fraught with
Importance to you. I am just dying to
hear the story."
"Well," he said, "I don't know as It's
anything so very extraordinary. The
fact is, the supreme -moment I refer to
