HURON COUN'fY TEMPERANCE CONVENTION
HELD IN CLINTON ON TUESDAY
The annual Meeting of the Temper-
ance workers of the county was held in
Clinton on Tuesday, those from Gode-
rich In attendance being Rov. Me stirs.
Osterhout, Ford, Hamilton, MeDermid
Dr. Rutledge, and Messrs. G. It. Elliott,
W. T. Pellow, S. E. Hick, A M.
Roberts6n. IT. H. Colborne and N. Yeo.
The reports presented by,the local
workers established the fact the tem-'
peralice laws in force in Huron have
adcompolisbed a great deal of good
tbroughanbonest enforcement on the
part of the officers and wagistratea and
theassistance of the county organiza-
tion.
The question of whether Huron
should petition the Oovernment to have
the Canada Temperance Act suspended
in favor of the Ontario Temperance Act
was fully discussed, but it was decided
to stay bythe C. T. A. until the On -
tario and Dominion measures of pro-
hibition had been finally placed on the
statute books by a vote of the people.
It wag also pointed out that the C. T.
A. was more strict than the 0. T. A.
in the matter of personal use and as
the remaining stocks of liquor were
now confined to the cellars of the
homes, it was important that this
advantage should be retained.
. Jopeph Gibson of Ingersoll, was pres-
ent and gave one of his characteristic
