The recent speethes by Mr. Chaim- berlain, Lord Rosebury and Mr. 241 - four, have caused no little comment since their utterances have become generally known to the rest of the world. Mr. Chamberlain strikes a hard blow to France, which has caused a great deal of enmity between the two nations. He took for his text cer- tain atrocious attacks upon Queen Vic- toria in the French press and read the French a pretty hard lesson, intima- ting very clearly that there was a de- ckled possibility of an alliance between England, Germany and the United States which would effectirely neut- ralize any undue ambitions on the part of the Frenchmen as against Eng- lish interests. The speech attracted a great deal of attention and called forth some pretty sharp criticisms on every hand.
