the purpose of grinding their food.
The natives assert that it is possible
to tell tbe age of a croeotlile by the

they wallow one each year. In

An Unparalleled Achievement.
There is no other enamtry in the
world that could do what we shall do
within the next fortnight—send 0,000
miles over the sea 50,000 men, horses
and munitions of war in none other
than British steamers, every one first
class. Such an achievement is unpar.
alleled bi the history of mankind,

appreciate the significant fact. It is
calculated that there will leave our
shores 0,000 men every day until the
last of the array corps has been des-
patched.—Liverpool Courier.

Larne Fowls are treeless.
if the hen gets lame and continues
zo it is generally better to send her
to the kettle. It has been the experi-
ence of many that a lame fowl stands
round so much that she gets fat and
stops laying. The queer thing is that
she will be found to have no signs of
eggs in. her. This seems to be due to
the fact that the fat has increased to
such an extent that the formation of
even embryonic eggs is discontinued.

A PATHETIO LETTER.
She writes:—"I had for a long time been
thinking of trying the Samaria Prescrip-

drinking habit, but I was afraid he would
discover that I was giving him medicine,
and the thought unnerved me. I hesitated
for nearly a week, but one day when he
came home very much intoxicated and
his week's salary nearly all spent, I threw
off all f ear and determined to make an
effort to save our home from the ruin I
saw coming, at all hazards. I sent for
your Samaria Proscription and put it in
his coffee as directed next morning and
watched and prayed for the result. At
noon I gave him more and also at supper.
He never suspected a thing, and I then
boldlyekept right on giving it regularly, as
I had discovered something that set every
nerve in my body tingling with hope and
happiness. and I could see a bright future
spread out before me—a peaceful, happy
home, a share in the good things of life, an
attentive, loving husband, comforts, and
everything else dear to a woman's heart,
for my husband had told me that whiskey
was e stuff and he was taking a dislike
to it. It was only too true, for before I
had given him the full course he had stop-
ped drinking altogether, but I kept giving
the medicine till it was gone, and then sent
for another lot to have on hand if he should
relapse, as he had done from his promises
before. He never • has, and I am writin
