Mc- Arthur, e the Dominion Surveyor who has been in charge of a large party In the Yukon country for the past three months, returned to the city last night and took trate for Ottawa to -day. The object of his season's work was to snake trails along the Yukon River. so as to enable travel to reach Dawson during the winter without the clanger and trouble that have hitherto been the case. With this end in view, the party cut somewhat over 100 miles of trails, the Yukon River,so as to enable travelers to building some 50 miles of trails. DIED IN HIS OFFICE, E. Jones Parke, (1.C., Police ahigis- trate of London, Suddenly Culled. London, Ont., Nov. 4.4.—E. Jones Parke, Q.C., Police Magistrate, died suddenly in his private office at 2.50 yesterday afternoon. He had not been feeling 'very well during the early part of the day and had a conversation with his partner, Mr. Purdorn, and also his son, in regard to his health in general, leaving them to consult his physician, Dr. Woodruff, who informed hini that he had heart trouble, from which old people often suffered. He then re- turned to his office and conversed upon several matters of business. An hour later he was dead, Ephraim Jones Parke was born Nov. 3, 1828, and was the eldest son of the late Thomas Parke, who was Surveyor -General in the Baldwin -La- fontaine Administration.- Be was educated at the London Grammar School and at Toronto. He studied late with the late Judge John Wil- son and with Sir John A. Macdonald in Kingston. He was called to the bar in 1846 and was appointed Q.C. in 1888 by. the Dominion Govern- ment. - Ike was appointed police magistrate about 20 years ago.
