Fatality Near Paisley.
Paisley, Oct. 17. ---Yesterday after-
noon, while three children we'.- play-
ing underneath a hay rack, which was
leaning against the fence, at the home
of Mr. McArtney, about four miles
from here, the rack slid and fell on the
neck of a little boy named Grant, four
years old. His two companions re-
moved the rack and he crawled from
under, but only to gasp a few tunes
and then life had passed. The boy
was the only son of his parents, whose
hone is in Manitoba, hoc the mother
and boy was visiting friends here.
Fined for Smuggling.
Sarnia, Ont., Oct. 17. —D. P. Philips.
of the Maher Minstrels, arrested and
brought here from Hamilton yester-
day, was brought before the police
court to -day. Collector of Customs
Matheson testified as to Phillips hav-

into Canada at Courtright, the duty
ainouutiug to $37.50.. As the duty had
been paid and Phillips seelninglyhaving
little idea of the enormity of his crone,
the minimum fine of $10 and costs, in

Found -Murdered in the Street.
'Winnipeg, _Man.. Oct: 17.—The body
of an unknown lean was found in an
outlying portion of the \Nestero part
of the city to -night. He was about 30

one of which the murder may

his daughter, Miss Carrie E., was unit-
ed in marriage to John Tebbntt, one
of our pushing young farmers. The

ter of the bride, while Walgate Teb-
batt, brother of the groom, officiated
as his brother's supporter. About six

happy event in which Rev. Mr. Green
was master of ceremonies. -

Courtice, of this township, was in
Toronto this fall, attending the exhi-
bition, he brought his mother, Mrs,
Lawcett, up with hiin to visit at his
home. Up to Sunday the visit could not
have been More pleasant or enjoyable;
last Sunday she ailed for the first tune,
yet not seriously. On Thursday even-
ing she ate a hearty meal, yet �it was
destined to be her last.. Tho doctor
had to be brought to see her 11 o'clock
that night, hilt he could do nothing
for her, she gradually sank, away and
d'ed. at 5o'clock Wednesday Morning.

fust Territorial Convention adopted
resolutions expressing the uncompro-
mising opposition of the convention
to the surrender to Great Britain in
any manner of any territory acquir-
ed by the United States from Russia,
and calling upon President McKinley
and the ,authorities at Washington
to firmly and steadfastly resist all
attempts, however insidious, of any
foreign power for the dismemberment
