CONVICTS FIGHT.
Charles Murphy Attacked a Fellow -Con-
vict in the Kingston Peuiteatiary,
Which Lad to General Bow.
Kingston, Ont., Sept, 19..—It 'was
learned yesterday that a disgraceful
fight took place between convicts in
the Kingston
penitentiary Friday af-
ternoon. Charles Murphy, alias John
Troy, murderer of Angus McLeod,
Napanee, attacked a fellow-conviet
named William Phillips, sentenced
from Kingston Keepers separated
them. John Doe, convicted at Moue
ton, N.13., for complicity in the mur-
der of Policeman Steadman, inform-
ed the guards that Troy would not
be so troublesome were it not for
the fact that he was being backed up
by Charles Hughbanks, a huge negro.
The last named overheard. Doe's re-
marks, and challenged hiss to fight.
They repaired to an unfrequented
part of the prison yard, where they
had it out. Doe got the better of
the negro, and was pummelling hien
on the ground when guards separat-
ed theta. Phillips interfered on Doe's
behalf, and was attacked by Elsner
Bidell, another Kingston convict, and
badly punished. An Indian named
Degair assisted in punishing Phil-
lip's. The efficers had great difficulty
in separating the men and restoring
quiet. Only a few days ago the cells
were searched, and a long bladed
knife was found in that Occupied by
the negro, Iltighbanks,
Mackie lines tt, ('xttourg,
Robert Mackie, serving a 10 -year
teras,. in Kingston penitentiary for
complicity in the Napanee hunk rob-
bery, will be taken to t'ohourg at 9
o'clock to -day, to give evidence in
the Penton trial.
Black dresses, capes and jackets will
be much worn this auttnnn; this will
be a blessing to the tw`olnan who wishes
to look well and who cannot afford to
buy much new clothing. Any woman
can, by using the Diamond .Dye Fast
Blacks, color their old clothes a black
that will not fade or wash out.
There are three special Diamond Dye
Fast Blacks --for wool, for cotton and
nixed goods, and for silk and feathers
and if the proper dye is used, any
woman can ;et better results than the
majority of experienced professional
dyers can produce.
Unlike some of the cheap imitations
of Diamond Dyes, these dyes cattle iu
almost every conceivable color, so that
the woman who -wishes any special col-
or can get it in the Diamond Dyes.
Practical tests prove that' the Fast
Diamond Dyes are the only dyestuffs
that make colors which soap will not
wash out nor sunlight fade.

account of $2,000 has been sent to the
