Experiments in controlling the sex
among sheep have reached stielz t stage
in France that the experimenters rs have

rule seems to be that to produce the

an action on account to recover three

that he never subscribed for the paper;

which he floes almost at will. The,'
prisoner had a conversation with his
counsel, lir. P. McPhillips, for about
an hour on Wednesday. One of the
several petitions circulated on behalf
of Brown was forwarded to Ottawa
last week, for the consideration of the
Minister of justice. The petition bore
the signatures of about forty mem-
bers of the bar. Rev. Dr. Johilston's
petition has not been completed. The
prisoner appears confident of securing
a reprieve. Brown is confined in the
first group of cells on the south side of
the jail, and therefore cannot see out
unto the street. All that is visible
through the small barred windows is
the jailyard, with its gloomy high
walls that shut out all but a little of
the warm sunshine these spring days.
There are half a dozen night cells in
this group. Each is only some three
feet wide, and the light comes through
the heavily barred gate at one end
only. Brown is locked into one of
those at night; and during the day is
admitted into the day cell, which is
provided only -with a table and bench.
The jail officials are very kind to
Browu, but allow hina no liberties.
He has the use of his peg -leg.

John Danby, an employe at the Wil-
liams shoe factory at Brampton, met
with a fearful accident to his right
hand Tuesday. IIe was working a
leather splitting machine when his
hand was caught between the feed rol-
lers, and it was dragged against the
splitting knife. The hand was split as
far as the middle of the palm; even the
bones of the fingers were split.
T. H. Walker's three-year-old son
had his hand badly bitten by a dog
while out walking at Ingersoll on Sun-
day. The little fellow, in company
with two other small boys, was walk-
ing clown street and a dog belonging
to Mr. B. Gray was lying on the side-
walk. The children in passing aroused
the canine and he immediately caught
holy of Mr. Walker's boy's hand and
pulled him to the ground, his teeth
going through the hand in a couple of
places. The dog was destroyed.
Chas. Hardy's team of horses ran
away at Sarnia on Monday and he was
thrown down and stepped on by the
animals in their frantic effort to get
away.' He was more seriously hurt
than was at first surmised. Some time
after the accident he went to a doctor's
when it was found that he had suffer-
ed a fracture of his collar bone, and
one end of the broken bone was al-
most forced out through the flesh and
skin. .Besides this he had about twen-
ty bruises about his face and body.
