Mr. Albert Hooper of this place, we
learn has lately become a licensed
auctioneer for the county of Huron.
We have every reason to believe there
is a bright future before him, as there
is a splendid opening through this sec-
tion for him along that line. Mr.
.11000per being thoroughly acquainted
with farm stock and the value of the
same, which is a great essential to an
auctioneer, will undoubtedly make a
grand success. -1t.

An Experience meeting.
The Ladies' Aid Society of the First
Methodist ehluclx, Owen Sound, has a
novel way of raising money as will be
seen by the following item taken from
the Times of that place, b iza-" While
the term experience kxle.etings have a
distinctly Methodistic flavor, the en-
tertainment provided by the Ladies'
Aid Society of the First Methodist
church last night had an altogether
foreign character from the usual con-
ception of experience meetings. The
members undertook to raise in some
way fifty cents each for the funds of
the society and the interest centered
largely on the fact that a number of
the ladies were to tell how they earned
their fifty cents. Twenty-eight re-
sponses were made to the calls for ex-
periences, and as one after another—
often in humerous verse—told of mak-
ing on morning fires, doing the laun-
dry work. making homemade bread,
cakes, lace, etc., the interest was com-
plete. Interspersed with the experi=
ences were musical and literary selec-
tions, including four numbers by Prof.

Huron County is Real Good.
The county of Huron, one of the
a very creditable record in regard to
criminal statistics. According to the
annual report of the inspector of pri-
sons, the county stands second on the
list in the Province in the lowest num-
ber of prisoners committed to goal for
the years 1896, '97 and '98, the number
of prisoners being 81, 75 and 44 respec-
tively.

Geordie Gets a Pension.
The Wingham Times says :--.'1 Geo.
Young, Esq., Gentleman, Veteran of
the army of the Republic and Pension-
er of the United States Government,
formerly known as "Geordie the Hat-
ter," has succeeded in having his claim
recognized by the American Govern-
ment, and is now on the regular army
pension list, and will receive a regular
pension of $8 per month until (lead.
In addition to that he received a sum
of over $400 in cash as arrears, and is
in consequence set up in the world

opened the meeting with prayer. The
auditors report was received and was
most satisfactory in its nature. Sides -
men, an envelope committee and an
Advisory board were elected, after
which the Rev. Ten Eyck spoke for
several minutes on his appointment
to the parish, and expressed his thanks
for the very kind and hearty reception
accorded him and the words of confi-
dence expressed for his work, ' He
stated that he believed it was God's
wish that he should labor here and he
had taken the responsibility, trusting
God to guide him in his progress and
by the co-operation of friends and
members he was confident of success.
He wanted to see every member put
their shoulder to the wheel and by so -
doing the Ohl Chariot would rollon in
the good work. This interesting part
of the meeting was then brought to a
close, followed by a more interesting
one for the inner -man, the meeting
taking the form of a reception to the
new Rector, Rev. Ten Eyck. Mr. N.
D. Hurdon, acted as spokesman on the
occasion, and in a short address ex-
tended to the reverend gentleman a
very cordial welcome and encouraged
the friends and members to lend their
undivided support and referred to the
opportunities for an aggressive work.
