London, Ont., Nov. 7.—The only de-
velopment in thestreet car stake ou
Saturday was that the strikers have put
on lines of busses covering the various
routes of the street railway. There was
no attempt to run the oars, The strikers
are orderly and well-behaved, making no
demonstrations whatever. But it is cer-
tain that no oar can bo moved till they
are satisfied. There are many 'nen here
ready to take the place of strikers and
lodgings are being fitted up in the barns,
but it is certain that the people will not
permit the cars to run. There are a
thousand ways in which any attetnpt to
open the system can be blocked without
any breaoh of the laws, and the men
know it. So the matter stands.

it is fa* more serviceable for gowns and

is allowable, but any plain woolen goods
of a lusterless surface may be worn—cash-
mere, serge, veiling and woolen grenadine.
The style of mourning costumes is ex-
tremely simple, bands or folds being the
only appropriate trimming. The hat or
bonnet is also very plain, and the veil for
the first period of mourning is as long as
the gown and is neither plaited nor ,gath-
tired.
For lighter mourning taffeta, heavy
De; silk grenadines (plain) and moires
which are not too definitely watered are
worn, with plain silk and poplin. Velvet
and cloth are not considered mourning
materials. , The wrap, even in wintere
should properly match the gown, and
mourning cloakings aro made to corre-
spond with lighter weight mourning dress
goods. White house gowns may be worn,
during any period of mourning, but only
in private.
Faille with heavy round or flat ribs,
plain grosgrain or that having , satin
stripes, other varieties of striped silks and
heavy silk or wool poplins are among the
chief fashionable fabrics. Wool, cloth and
poplin Scotch plaids will bo much worn.
Tight skirts fitted without a fold and
mounted on the waistband with no gath-
ers are having a special success for these
costumes. They are fastened by horn, sil-
veror steel buttons, sometimes in one
row and sometimes in two at the back.
A new coiffure is illustrated. The hair
is waved throughout and curltd in front,
the mass being clrawn lightly to the crown'
of the bead, where the ends aro curled and
the knot is bald in place by an enormous
renaissance shell comb.

this should be done as soon as the milk

"Called you a lobster, did he? What is
your business?"
"I've got an alley cleaning contract,
your honor." -
"In this ward?"
"Yes, your honor."
"That's sufficient. I' know bow the
alleys are cleaned in this ward. The lob-
stee,•my friend, is a scavenger of the sea,
but heis a good scavenger. You are a
scavenger on land and a mighty peptone.
The lobster is the one to complain of the
comparison, and the flee for striking this
boy for calling you a lobster will be $11
and costs. Next!" -Chicago Tribune.
