Dr. Willoughby left yesterday (Wed)
morning to attend the Methodist Con
ference iu Toronto. It will be held in
the 141etropolitan Church and will con-
tinue about three weeks. The Doctor
gave a very earnest, argumentative
and convincing address last Sunday
morning on the coming plebiscite. In
the evening be gave the last of the
series of four addresses to young . peo-
ple. The congregations were very
large at both services, and especially
so in the evening. The interest taken
in the church services through all
weather, must be very gratifying to
the pastor. He will be absent from
the pulpit during the Sabbaths of Sep
tember.
A reduction in the price of chainless
wheels may be looked for in 1899. The
makers of this style of machine held a
conference recently to determine upon
terms for next year. The decision
reached has not been announced, and
will not be until late in the fall, as
it may possibly affect the price of chain
wheels, Some guessers who think
themselves shrewd predict that in the
spring the best chainless wheels will
be; obtainable for $75.

The new post office regulations went
into effect on the first of July, and it
is expected that a great deal of the
work before imposed upon . the dead -
letter office may be obviated if the
public will pay attention to the re-
quest which the department is making
by means of posters at all the post of-
fices, asking that the name and ad-
dress of the writer or sender; shall be
placed on the upper left hand corner
of all envelopes or wrappers. If this.
is done, the postmaster will at once
communicate with the sender instead
of sending the letter to the dead letter
office. In addition to the saving in
time and labor, the public would in
this be relieved of the unpaid postage
charges now made for the return of
mail matter through the dead -letter
office. A neatly printed envelope giv-

can be had at Tax ADVnOAT; eliice at
