Successful Students From Wes-
tern Ontario Schools.
The reports of the Board of Examin-
ers, in connection with the High school
and. matriculation examinations held
in July, have bean considered by the
Educational Council, and below are
given the names of the successful can-
didates at Western Ontario centres, so
far as concern the examination of Forms
1. and II. It is expected that the re-
sults of the examinations of Forms
III. and IV., and for commercial spec.
ialists, commercial diplomas and do
mestic science, will be published next
week. It is intended to have the marks
of unsuccessful candidates sent within
ten days to the principals of High or
Public school inspectors, The marks
will not be sent to candidates ' by the
department. Certificates will also be
sent to principals and inspectors about
the 1st of September. It is recommend-
ed that unsuccessful candidates should
not appeal until they have consulted
the High school principal after receiv-
ing their marks. Appeals, to be main-
tained, must be made before the 20th
September. Regarding the value of
the certificates, it will be understood
that a Form certificate has the same
qualifying value for a teacher's certifi-
cate as a public school leaving certifi-
cate, which, together with a Form II.
certificate, gives primary standing and

Stephen: On Monday Mr. Al. Mad-
den, of the 12th con., bad his hands
badly mangled in the billhook of a
binder.
Goderich: On Tuesday a very pret-
ty wedding was celebrated at the rest -
deuce of James Craig, the contracting
parties being, his eldest daughter,
Mary, and W. A. Doner, banker of Stay-
ner. The ceremony was performed by
the Rev. A. Anderson, B. A.
Hillsggeen : While threshing on the
farm of Mr, Thos. Farquhar one day
last week, Mr. 'William Blair met with
a somewhat painful accident. The
pulley in connection with the straw
carriers was being lowered, and in-
stead of coming down straight turued
on end and striking Mr. Blair in the
face, cut his Hp so badly that it necessi-
tated four stitches being placed in it.
William now looks somewhat " down
in the mouth," but is just as good nat-
ured as ever.
Wingbam; Tbe de- 11 occurred at
St. Joseph's Hospital, 1. eadon, Saturday
afternoon, of Gerraeace Pethick of this
place. eIr. Pethick was a member of
the firm of Smith & Pethick, hardware
merchants, of Wingham, and was well
known and hierhy respected by a large
circle of friends, who will hear of his
death with feelings of the deepest re-
gret. Up to a few days since his
friends looked forward to a speedy re-
covery, but he took a sudden relapse on
Saturday, and died as stated.
Clinton : On Mon4ay evening R. J.
Muff mot with a severe accident, the
result of his horse running away. He
had gone out into the country, aceomp.
anied by 'Mrs Parke, and as they were
returning the horse geterightened, and
upset them when near Mr. Weir's on
the Bayfield road. Both were thrown
out, Mrs Parke escaping with nothing
more thau a few bruises. Mr. Muff
was not so fortunate, sustaining a very
severe sprain of his ankle, which will
confine him to his room for some tines
Clinton: A citizen of Little England
suspecting that the feed for his porkers
did not all disappear down the throats
of his own swine, laid wait one night
recently and at an uncanny hour was
rewarded by the appearance of one of
his neighbors, who struck a light, which
served the purpose of identification
though not so intended. When interro-
gated as to the why and the wherefore
of his presence, the neighbor replied
that he came merely to borrow some
chicken -feed. This does not appear to
have been satisfactory, for an informa-
tion was laid before a magistrate next
day and the young man summoned.
The case did aot, however, go to court,
a settlement beefier effected upon the
payment of $25 in addition to costs,
$26.26 in all, rather expensive feed. -
