When a child is cured of the itching torture and burning inflammation of eczema, or salt rheum, it is no woitdee that words fail to express the joy of the grateful parents, and that they gladly tell in as strong terms as pos- eiblo the plain story of suffering re- lieved and health restored. Many testimonials o Mals relate the wonderful suc- cess of Hood's Sarsaparilla in such cases, even alter all other prescription and medicines fail. Ilere is one; "C. T. hood & Co., Lowell, Mass.: "Dear Sirs: -002 boy Harvey will re- member the good Hood's Sarsaparilla did him as long as ho lives. He was a healthy baby when he was born, but before he was three months old a breaking out ap- peared on both sides of his face, Physi- cians did him little good and said but for his strong constitution he could not have livedthrough his dreadful suffering. The humor spread over lila. forehead, into his eyes, and came out on his hands. It was indeed pitiful to witness the poor child's sufferings. It was very painful for him to open or shut his eyes, and we had to tie his little hands to prevent him from scratching the itching, burning akin. My mother urged us to try Hood's Sar- saparilla. We did so, and a short time alter ho began to take this medicine we saw a change for the better. We con- tinued until we had given him five bot- tles, and. then the eczema had entirely disappeared, and he has ever since been perfectly cured of this dreadful dieease. His sufferings extended over two and a half years. People for miles around knew his dreadful condition and know that Hood's Sarsaparilla cured him. Ho is now a bright, boy, perfectly healthy and has the finest skin of any of my five children." Mns. L. KiAvspnLDBn, Collegeville, Pa. Hood's Sarsaparilla is sold by all drug- gi lta. f1; nix for f6. The power- ful cogs carried the man's leg in and ipflicted a painful, though not serious, wound. Ile was taken to the hospital where big injuries were dressed by the house surgeon. It was found that the inside of the thigh of the left ler, was terribly lacerated for a distance of seven or eight inches.. A very seri'-us accident occured on Tut sdny at Chatham, and the victim lies at her home in a precarious con- dition. JULIA KLEE WAS POISONED. Strychnine Found 1,, the Stomach. or the Deceased., Welland, Ont., Nov. 80. --The cause of Julia Klee's death Is no longer a ,mystery. To -day a coroner's jury came to the unanimous deoision that she died by poison alininisterod by unknown persons,, and a charge of murder may be forthcoming with1ii a few days. The ver- dict that she so died was based upon the report of Analyst Ellis that strychnine was femme iu the stomach of the do - ceased, and that suoh ingredient was not used in the embalming fluid, The inquest on the mysterious death df Julia Klee, on June 12th, was re- opened at Humberstone to -day, before Coroner Cumines, after a delay of five weeks. .At two o'olook the jury was sworn in, and the following report from. the analyst was 28;nI -- "School of Practical Science, Torouto, Nov. 27. To T. Culuines, Esq., coroner, Welland, Out. Dear Sir --I have esaut- ined the viscera of the hate Julia Klee, left with nle by Mr. Richard Griffin. From the stomach I have extracted a very small quantity of an alkaloid, which gives the reaction of strychnine. Yours truly, W. Hodgson Ellis." Dr. Old was called, and swore that he could find no cause of death that in his opinion, if the alkaloid was administered in the milk which, according to previous evidence. she had taken half an hour before she died, it did not have time to act. The sylnptouts given in former evi- dence were those of strychnine poison, as far as they went. In his opinion if the analyst Pound any strycluti.ue in the stomach now theta )oust have been enough five months ago, at the time of death, to have killed the deceased, The contents of the stomach escaped when the body was exhumed, and only the easing of the stozuaoh was sent to the analyst. Mrs. Gammon swore that Julia Hlee frequently visited her, and sometimes remained for meals. About two years ago Julia told her she was afraid to eat or drink when her sisters were around, They were always quarreling about the property, and she wus afraid they would poison her. This completed to -day's evidenoe, and the jury retired, and within an hour returned with a verdict that Julia Klee came to her death by poison administer- ed by the hand or hands of some person or persons unknown to the jury, The jury were polled, and then dismissed by the coroner, THE FOREST CITY. Death of Another 014 Resident—Farmer Balled. London, Ont., Nov. 29,—Mr, Wm. Flinton, another of London's oldest citi- zens, died this morning at the resideuco of his daughter, Mrs. Eliza Hunt, 1041 Mabel street. Me was born in Soarboro', Yorkshire, Eng., in 1818. His long life of 84 years was filled with interesting adventures of one bind and another. .At the age of 17 he came to Canada, settl- ing in Montreal. He was one of those wild shouldered a musket and served through the Maokenzio-Papinettu trouble of 18S7-30. He also witnessed the shoot- ing of Chenies After the strife had end- ed bo removed to Toronto, and thence to this city in 1S54, living here continu- ously ever since. He leaves behind to mourn his loss ono son, four daughters (among them being Mrs. P. L. V. Ross, of Toronto), 30 grandchildren, and 50 great-grandchildren. Mr. William Spice, a middle-aged farmer, who resided in West Nissouri, near Thorndale, was struck by a motor car on the lottersburg line, near the insane asylum, while driving home from the city last evening, and was so serious- ly injured that he died very shortly after. The car was backing into the oity at the Mine the mishap occurred. Only last week the Government gave the company permission to construct a "Y" on the asylum grounds, and awaiting this the cars have been banked into the oity with the motorman on the rear end. This is the first fatality since the opening of the electric system in this city, two years ago GALLIA'S FIRST TRIP. The New Canadian ,flail Steamer Arrives at Halifax in Goocl Time. Halifax, N.S., Nov. 20.—The Beaver lice mail steamer Gallia surprised Hali- fax people by entered port at 2 o'olook this afternoon after an exceedingly good run, considering the heavy gales which were encountered ever since leaving 1, oville, on November 21st. Yesterday furnished the only favorable weather of the voyage. Large numbers of people visited the steamer as she lay at the I. C. R. terminus. All were delighted with her fine saloon and excellent passenger accommodation, and there were many who pronounced her the best boat that has ever visited this port. There' is little doubt that she will become a very popu- lar boat in the Canadian trade. The Gallia landed the mails and some of her passengers, and departed for St John in two hours. The manager of the line, Mr. D. W. Campbell, of Montreal, was on hand to meat the boat on her erriva], and escort members of tho Board of Trade and others through the steamer. Mr. Campbell is being dined to -night at the Halifax Club by citizens and mem- bers of the Board of .Trade, who will express their delight at this . inauguara- tion of a direct Canadian steamshib ser- vice. A SUSPICIOUS CONSIGNMENT. Homes of Gunpowder raise] 9.• Marked as Arius. London, Nov. 29.—Eight barges, load- ed with oases of gunpowder falsely labelled "Arms," havebeen seized by the Customs officers in the 'Thames. They came from Russia, and were about to be transferred to the steamer Baluoh- istan, for Persia. , It is suggested that the ammunition was destined for the Afridis. It developed to -day from the investi- gation made into the subject that the eight barges loaded with oases of gun- powder, falsely labelled "arms," which have been seized by Customs officers on the Thames, were consigned from 89. Petersburg to Jibutil through, a Paris agent, and were probably intended for Abyssinia. A Thanksivinr Gift. St. Louis, Mo., Nov: 26.—It is an- nounced to -day that, as a thanllsgivi n„ President George Gould, of the Missouri Pacific system, has advanced salaries along the line ten per cent. The advance, which will date bank from November lst, affects 1,000 employes, and will re- sult in an additional expenditure of $900,- 000 a year. Suicide of a Farmer. Peterboro', Nov, 29th.—Yesterday word was brought to Coroner Bell from Lakefieldthat Henry Davey, a farmer of Douro, who lived alone, had been found dead in his bedroom, with his throat cut. He had been to Peterboro' on market day, and a large sum of, money was found in itis pockets. He appears to have first mixed a cup of Paris green, but evidently preferred a razor, with which he first cut the throat of a favorite horse which he said noboby else should own. He then went to the house and destroyed him- self. Drink is given as the cause of the suicide. No inquest was consider- ee necessary. oiila fl0! FJoi'ce To Be Operated .On at the Hospital. The Lady Uses Paine's Celery Cvm- pound and is Cured. 'Jr$. Saunders, of Bracondale, a sub- urb of Toronto, lay in the hospital quite suf- fering feting from a trouble common with many of her sex. At a critical tinle in her sickness the doctors deemed. an operation • necessary. Mrs. Saun- ders wisely refused to submit to this del cisi0u of the medical staff, and decided to try the virtues of Faille's Celery Compound. After being blessed with a complete cure, Mrs Saunders wrote as follows: "It is with much pleasure that I testify to the value of you. wonderful Paige's Celery Compound, I was a great sufferer from severe attacks of neuralgia in the left ovary. At times the attacks were so acute that I thought I would lose my reason.. Several doctors treated me, and I was a patiet in St. Joseph Hospital. Hamilton, I obtained no relief from medical treatment. The doctors said unless I had the ovary taken away 1 could not be cured. Instead of submitting to the opera tion I used Paine's Celery Compound, and I am thankful your valuable med. icine cured me. I would like all suf faring to know just what this great medicine has done for me." A Clever Boy Shot. Thamesvtlle, Ont., Nov. 2Gth.--Adue the 16 year-old sou of William Howes, a farmer residing in the township of Camden, about five miles from here, met with a severe accident yesterday, while preparitg to go shooting with a youug friend from Chatham. The young men were loading their guns in \Ir. Ilowe's kitchen, when by some means the friend's gun was discharged the entire charge entering the outer side of Aduo's right leg, just above the knee, shattering the lower end of the thigh bone. Surgical aid was secured from here and the lamb amputated. At latest accouuts the young man was resting nicely. Mr. and Idrs. Howes have the sympathy of the whole neigh- borhood, as Adne is their only son, and an unusually bright and clever lad. Mrs. Hugh Riley, of St. 'Thomas, on Monday stepped out of the back door and fell heavily to the ground. She had her right leg broken and her ankle dislocated. Patrick O'Brien, of Walkerton, arose the other morning, ate a hearty break- fast, and went out to feed the cattle and do the chores around the barn. While doing this he was seized with heart disease and dropped dead. George H. Mills, government inspec- tor of fruit trees for the county of Essex, has discovered a section where over 2,000 trees are infected with the San Jose scale. He expects that at least 1,000 will have to be burned, caus- ing a loss of $6,000 or $3,000. The infected trees are said to have been part of a large consignment from New Jersey. The county council have bean asked to assist the government officials. See that it is there!
