The excellent qualities of hood's

Learning, Post:—The little son of Mrs.
Black, of Galt, who is visiting the lat•
ter's sister, Mrs. Jos. Evans, con. 2, was
horribly mutilated by a ferocious hog
on Thursday evening last. The child
noticed the little pigs playing about
their mother, jumped into the pen to
fondle one of them, whereupon the in
furiated mother dashed at the boy,
knocked him down, and nearly tore
the clothing off him. His screams
were heard by one of the Evans boys,
who ran to the child's assistance, but
before freeing him Mrs. Evans
had a • hard battle with the hog,
which turned upon him. The little
fellow was taken to the house and Dr.
Hughes summoned. On examination
it was found that the flesh was torn
from the fleshy part of the hips, side,
arms, and one armpit completely torn
out, exposing the arteries and their
pulsation. The wounds were dressed,
and Dr. Hughes says tthe little fellow
will certainly get better. Had the
child been at the mercy of the hog ,five
minutes longer there is no doubt; but
that he would have been torn limb
from limb.

Travel for this Tear Slack cuing» -Prospect.
for a liailway.
Seattle, Wash., Sept. 13. -The steamer
City of Topeka arrived from Alaska et
four o'clock this morning, and, brings
the following letter to the Assoloiated
Press:
Junes, Alaska.—Among the recent
arrivals this port are the steamers
Rosalie,ayf3ower, Detroit, Wiiliainetto
and Topeka, and the falling off in the
volume of travel is very noticeable. The
majority of new -comers will remain at
Juneau until spring. An effort will be
made next year to turn the tide of travel
by way of Sitka, going from there to
Yakoutal and Disenchantment Bay, and
up the White River, the distance being
only about 425 utiles from Sitka to Daw-
son, as against .700 miles from Juneau
over the present trail.
The building of a railroad from Jun-
eau to Lake Tostin is now assured.
Thorough examination by the interested
parties has decided them to commence
work at the earliest possible moment
nest year. The road will go by way of
the Taku,•
No doubt this will bo the first rail-
road established, but it probably will be
quickly followed by others, two prospec-
tive roads in particular having- the same
terminus as the Juneau road. In going
into the Yukon country the White Horse
rapids and runny other dangerous places
will be avoided. As there will he suitable
boats plying on Lake Testin and Hootal-
inqua River, the trip will be one of plea-
sure rather than otherwise.
Bnril progress is being made on the
cable tramway now in course of con-
struction at Chi.lkoot Pass, and when
finished everything can go over more
cheaply and quickly than heretofore.
Everyone is now mapping out arrange-
ments for winter quarters, as it will
scan be out of the question. to eater the

A VALUABLE MURILLO
Found in aDealer's Stare in Copenhagon-
Stolen Daring French Invasion of Spain.
London, Sept. 13.—The discovery -of a
valuable Murillo is reported from Copen-
hagen, Dubois de la clue, a French con-
noisseur, found it in a dealer's possession,
and has no doubt of its g enuincness. He
estimates its value at 51'20, 000. The
owner, however, fixes the price at 5825,-
000. It is believed that the picture was
painted by Murillo for the Jesuit monas-
ters of an Ignacio de Loyola, in San
Sebastian. The middle portion Is well
preserved, and is distinguished by the
freshness and warmth of the colors. The
upper part, apparently, has been some-
what unskilfully restored. It is thought
that it was removed from the monastery
during the French lovasion. Subsequent-
ly it was taken to England. It was sold
to a Norwegian by an Englishman, on
condition that it should not be offered
for sale. This seems to indicate that it
was stolen. It probably came to Denmark
about 1fl$0.
A ROYAL MEETING.
Emperor Willi:sat Pays a Visit to Emperor
Francis Joseph.
Totis, Hungary, Sept. 13.—Emperor
William, with a numerous suite, includ-
ing General Count Obrutscheff, chief of
the Russian General staff, arrived here
this afternoon, and was received at the
railway station by Emperor Francis
Joseph. The Austro-Hungarian monarch
wore the uniform of a Prussian field
marshal and the ribbon of the Order of
the Black Eagle. He was accompanied
by the Austrian Archdukes. The two
Emperors kissed each other twice, and
repeatedly shook hands effusively. Em-
peror William wore the uniform of his
Austrian Hussar regiment. The Imperial
meeting was witnessed by thousands of
spectators, who cheered lustily. From
the railway station Emperor Wilburn
and Emperor Francis Joseph went to the
famous old castle of the Count Franz
Esternazy.

Sault Ste. Maria, Mich., Sept. 13. --
Two gentlemen now here, who will go to
Michipicoten on the steamer, are J. B.
Bishop, of New Stork, and L. White, of
Quebec. Bishop is one of the most wide-
ly known promoters in the United States.
It was he who promoted the Bell Tele-
phone Co. stock when in its infancy, the
White Sewing Machine Co., and more
recently was the promoter of two com-
panies formed to develop Klondike
claims. Mr. White is a capitalist of Que-
bec. The two gentlemen will endeavor
to secure a portion of ono of the promis•
ing claims at Lake Wawa, and sink a
shaft for the purpose of ascertaining how
the quartz pans out at a depth. Neces-
sary implements and a gang of men will
be taken up for the work, which, it is
thought, will require about three weeks'
time and will necessitate an investment
of something like 80.000. If they strike
pay rock it will indicate positively that
there is plenty in the region at other
points. Several parties will go up on the
next boat.

Niagara Falls, Sept. 10.—An import-
ant arrest was made by Detective Maines,

ston to -day, on the strength of informa-
tion received from Post -Office Inspector
Morris, of New York City. The man
captured is Frederick S. Colbourn,
charged with embezzling large sums of
money from the Post -Office Department
at Washington. He was located at a quiet
little hotel near Queenston. After being
arrested, he consented to return to Wash-
ington and stand his trial. He had on
his person when arrested nearly four
hundred dollars, The accused returned
this afternoon, in charge of Detective
Ryan of Washington and Inspector
Morris.

A Cure That Was Permanent.
The Medicine Used Was Paine's
Celery Compound.
Day after day hotno and foreign cur-
es are heralded as the result of using
this or that medicine. It is safe to as-
sert that many of the published letters
are bogus, and others will hardly bear
the light of investigation.
The cures affdeted by Paine's Celery
Compound, and noted in the press of
the q untry, have all the ring of gen-
uineness and honesty about them, and
the original letters can be seen at any
time by an interested public.
It has also been proven in number-
less instances that the cures made by
Paine's Celery Compound are perman
ent. Another letter has just been re-
ceived, this time from Mr, P. J. Kil-
bride, Postmaster, Inverness, P. E. I.,
testing to the permanency of his cure.
His case was one of the most serious
and critical ever given to the public,
and his complete cure astonished his
many friends and the residents of his
town.
Mr. Kilbride says: "Over three years
I gave you a testimonial for Paine's
Celery Compound after it had cured
me
"To -day I am in spleudid condition,
and have not been sick a single day
since I used the famous Paine's Cel-
ery Compound.
"I certainly owe my present health
and strength to your medicine, and I
am fully conyinced that it saved me
from a condition bordering on insanity.
I can now eat and sleep well, and I
thank God for Paine's Celery Compound
and the great chahge.
"I have received and answered 250
letters since my testimonial was pub-
lished. These 'letters came from all
parts of Canada and the United States.
It has been a pleasure answering these
letters from sufferers, and I trust my
recommendation of Paine's Celery Com
pound will help suffering humanity."
