THE LIMESTONE CITY,
Death on an Excursion Steamer -Gr, ves
Decorated -Canadian and United states
Requirements on Steamers,
Kingston, Ont., June 27.—On. Satur-
day afternoon Mr. and Mrs. John Baker
attended an excursion on the steamer
America, which sailed among the Thou'
sand Islands. Their son, Arthur, who
has been for some time in a weak con-
dition on account of rheumatism, be -
canto suddenly ill. He was reanoyed to a
state -room, and attended by Miss For-
tescue, a graduate of the Montreal Gen-
eral Hospital nursing staff. Everything
was clone to save the boy's life, but fail-
ure was the result. He was about four-
teen years of ago, and expired about half
an hour before the city was reached.
On Saturday the Oddfollows of King-
ston docorated the graves of deceased
brethren at Cataragni, Cemetery, and to-
day a memorial service was held.
Last week the collector of Customs at
Cape Vincent, N.Y., issued an order for-
bidding the steamer Pierrepont, when
having passengers aboard, going around
the head of Wolfe Island on her ferry
trips to and from Bingston and Cape
Vincent. The requirements set up by the
American Government touching the out-
fit that lake -going steamers must carry
are different from those of Canada. The
steamer was fitted out according to the
Canadian requirements, sufficient in
every particular, but the Cape Vincent
collector thought the steamer must com-
ply with the American requirements,
as well. The matter was referred to the
authorities at Washington for settlement,
the oxaet condition of affairs being sot
forth. Meanwhile the officers of the
steamer complied with the command
issued by the Cape Vincent collector.
On Saturday an answer arrived, to the
effect that the Canadian requirements as
fulfilled were sufficient, and that the
steamer could make her trips by way of
the head of the island. The change of
route made a difference of an hour in
the trip each way.
AN AID TO BURGLARY.
Power of a Trolley Line Used to Open a
Safe.
Cleveland, 0., Tune 2S.—Burglars
resorted to a novel scheme to open a
bank safe at Chagrin Falls, this county,
last night. They entered the bank of
Rogers & Son some time early in the
evening. They had previousy attached a
wire to the trolley line of the electric
railway. 'This wire was run through over
a transom and to tho safe. Another wire
attached to the rail of the street car
track was brought into the bank. At the
ends of those wires were carbon points.
With these carbons an attempt was made
with the arc light thus formed to melt
the knob of the combination. The • ex-
periment worked all right, and the knob
had been nearly melted away when the
current was shut off shortly after mid-
night. The btu'glars then gave up the
task. The job was planned scientifically..
The thieves hacl even gone to the trouble
of planing a little pile of sand under the
knob for the molten metal to fall on and
thus avoid setting fire to the floor. There
is no clue to the burglars.
The Royal City.
Guelph, Ont., June 2S.—Some time
between Saturday night and Sunday
morning the store of i11r. Joseph McDon-
ald, in Marden, was entered by burglars,
who went through the safe, which was
left unlocked, and secured eighty dollars
and seven thousand dollars in debentures
on the Guelph and Ontario Investment
and Savings Society. They also went
through the cash box, which they opened
with the aid of a penknife, but dict not,
take a few coppers which it contained. Bo
far no clue has been obtained.

The Suffering and

Need Words of Cheer.
Their Only Avenue of Escape is
Throur'h Paine's Celery
Compound.
True words of encouragement, hope
and cheer are generally welcomed by
suffering humanity -at least by that.
part of it with crushed spirits and de-
spondent hearts._'
To those who are martyrs from
rheumatism and neuralgia we have a
few words of honest adyice, which, if
followed, will certainly lead to that
coveted goal -perfect health—that
many are so earnestly praying to reach.
Up to the present you have failed to
banish your rheumatism. The medi-
cines you are using have not .removed
the floating acid poison from your
joints and muscles. You are as bad
to-day—perhaps worse—than . when
you commenced to doctor, and some of
you, are pronounced incurable.
Cheer up, sad souls! There is hope,
yes, more than hope; there is a new
life for you and freedom from all pain
and agony if you give that heaven
sent remedy, Paine's Celery Compound,
a fair and honest trial. It has com-
pletely cured the worst forms of rheum
atism in the past, and its great and
precious yirtues will do the same good
work for you to -day.
To those who suffer from that merci-
less tormenter, neuralgia, we say, with
all candor, use Paine's Celery Com
pound, and your future will be soon
happy and bright. This disease al-
ways indicates a low or depressed vital-
ity, and is the most agonizing and ex-
hausting that can afflict the nervous
system. The ablest physieans now
freely prescribe Paine's Celery Com-
pound for neuralgia. and affirm that
no other medicine can so completely
eradicate the cause of this terrible
disease.
One bottle of the great health -giving
medicine will produce cheering results
end will prove that our advice is gold•
