She became seriously i11 from rtinning ulcers, caused by poorness of d 8 and was strongly advised by a friend to try Hood's Sarsaparilla, She said it had cured her and would no doubt cure my wife. So we tried it, and to say that its effect is wonderful, is only using a mild expression. It appears to be build- ing up a new constitution for her; and, as we are a family of eleven, there are eleven of us rejoicing at the result. Chatham, Ont„ Oct. 22. -Sonic sensa- tion and much talit has arisen over the visit of a than calling himself Vlctnr Digammi, claiming :to be a native Cabal and holding high office among the In- surgents. Ho has been in this city Fevered days, as is alleged on a seoret recruiting mission, Re :is a man 55 years of age, fashinnably but not: extravagantly dressed, speaks English with `that would be taken for a, German acoont, and in complexion and features might be suis tpken for a mulatto. The fore and mid- dle finger of the left hand are gone, and on bis forehead, when the hair is tirt'i od back, is shown an ugly than only partly healed. He is 5 feet 10 inches in height, and, of athletic build. To some he repre- sents himself to bo the agent 0f a large tobacco oo110ern, to others ,be is a mining expert prospecting. When he casae here. bo was accompanied by a handsome girl. of about fifteen, in short dresses, and with flaxen flair, but Who has since left the. city. The strange gentleman put up at a private boarding-house in the 'East end. He has considerable baggage. Some bore New York and Philadelphia •labels; on others there were also foreign harks Fie neither drank nor smoked, and went regularly each morning to his devotions its the Roman Catholic ohnroh. Evident- ly he has a great deal of money, but olid no banking. Those who claim to be in his ooefidence xray that Digamml is a rpm -Heal doctor and army of'.cer, and that ho is in this country endeavoring, evith inore or less success, to secure re- cruits for the rebel ranks in Cuba from among the negro race in Canada. Osten- sibly he will hire thein to work on the plantations, so the eontraot reads, but in reality they agree to join the insur- gents and help the Cuban revolutionary cause. The knowing ones say that Daganrmi was attracted to Chatham• by accounts of its hirge nolorod population, which at the present time might be counted on as a valuable roorniting ground for the Cuban rebels, but there does not appear to bo any general desire among them to go to flgthing for a living. He gives out that he has met with fair success, and will be satisfied if he can on this trip enlist an even 1,000 colored Canadians. He left to -day for. St, Cathar- ines, but before going stated that at the back of this recruiting movelnent there are millionaire New York Cuban sympa- thizers who will foot every dollar of the cost. In an interview to -day Senator San- ford, the thief of the Sanford Manufac- turing Company, said he had not de- cided on the removal of the factory to Toronto, but had been considering the advisability of doing so. '.Iia gave several reasons why it would bo in his interests to go to Toronto, one being that it is a larger distributing center than Hamil- ton. Ho referred to the low price paid for making overalls there, as compared with the prices here. Another reason is that the Senator is thinking of extend- ing the business, and manufacturing mantles and ladies' costumes.
