MABELINE is a positiye cure for all
uterine troubles. It is not necessary' to
enumerate them here. It is the general cus-
tom in describing a remedy to fill the ad-
vertising medium with a medical treatise,
describing, in a highly colored manner,
symptoms andforms of disease, scientifical-
ly, and in such a way as to involve the read
or in a maze of theory and. speculation. We
avoid all this sensational way of advertis-
ing. If you are sick it is presumed that you
know oftlie fact and can form some idea of
what your ailment is, and we can only ad-
vise you generally.
MABELINE is vegetable compound and
cannot injure the most delicate and can be
used with perfect safety.

THE WOMAN'S BIBLE.
It is Impossible to Take This Fanciful Prtr
• duction Seriously.
It is hardly possible to- take "The
Woman's Bible" seriously, so much of It
is flippant and ridiculous; and yet it has
a sober and significant aspect. The names
of the women who prepared it, as far as it
has been given to the public, are well
known and highly respected. They repre-
sent in a distinct and practical sense the
cause of the emancipation of their sex, as
they call it, and nobody is disposed to
question their sincerity. But it may be
well doubted if their attempt to discredit
the Scriptures in the interest of the
mothers -and daughters of the world will
prove to be successful. On the contrary,
it is likely to retard the progress of the
movement to enlarge the sphere of woman
an
tied abolish the discriminations which are
alleged to be unjust and injurious to her.
These bold and eager critics • of the great-
est of all books do not speak by any auth-
ority of superior ability in that relation,.
and certainly they do not present anything
that is either novel or impressive. For
the most part, they merely repeat the
time -worn sophistries and special plead-
ings of infidel writers in all ages; and the
prevailing spirit of the work is supercil-
ious and irreverent. It is comparatively
easy, as all students'of the Bible know, to
point out technical discrepancies in it.
Col, Ingersoll has made that sort of flaw -
picking familiar anti more or less popular;
but the efforts of these feminine scoffers
to imitate him are sadly bungling and
ineffective. •
The fact 'is 'worth noting by way of il-
lustrating the general character of the
book that, while it contemptuously rejects
the story of the creation of woman out of
a rib taken from Adam while the slopt, tho
story of the serpent and the temptation of
Eve is practically accepted. Adam's con-
duct in the case is severely aflci justifiably
condemned, and we are told that "the an
prejudicul reader must he impressed with
the courage, the dignity and the lofty
ambition of the woman." Thus the touch
of vanity that makes the whole sex kin
serves to authenticate one miracle and to
invalidate another in pretty contempt of
the fact that they both have the same
foundation and are equally credible. The.
story of the birth at Moses is accepted be-
cause it appeals to maternal instinct, and
because only women were present when
the baby was discovered among the bul-
rushes. By a similar process of distinc•
tion, the story of Balaam and the ass is in-
dorsed, beoanse the ass was of the feminine
gender. While Balsam was angry, head-
strong and violent, tvo are 'informed, the
ass calmly manifested "the keen spiritual
insight and the ready power of speech
with which the female sex has been spe-
cially endowed, and which are often re-
ferred to with ridicule and reproach by
Stolid, envious observers of the less im-
pressionable sex." Thee specimens indi-
cate the drift of the work as a whole and
the theory upon which it is based, if it can
be said to have a theory.
There is nothing to be said hi favor of
book ascontributionthe lit r-
anch abioa to liter-
ature of the woman question. It will pro-
voke derision on the ono hand, and on the
other a feeling of profound pity anti re
Bret.. The sentiment to which the cause
of feminine advancement owes all of its
triumphs and to which it must look for all
of its future victories will surely not be
increased by a performance of this sort.
When the champions of the rights of the
sex make their cause absurd they can not
expect into prosper. .And that is the be-
setting weakness of their methods and
policies. It is difficult to conceive of a
worse mistake that they could make than
that of antagonizing Christianity and.
making assaults upon the Bible that is
the source of all that is good and true. in our
civilization. Women are most respected
and honored on account of their moral and
religious qualities. Men willingly accord
to them a superiority in that respect, and
pay them homage because of their devo-
tion to spiritual interests. If they throw
away that advantage and become skeptics
and cynics as to matters of vital import-
ance, their privileges anti opportunities
will not be extended, The infidol woman
is a kind of contradiction of nattue, an ob-
ject of astonishment and aversion; and if
the sex is wise it will never adopt that
condition for the purpose of promoting its
chances of welfare and happiness.

"Annabel," called a rich shoeman's
wife over the banister, as she heard the
front door close.
"Yes, mamma, "replied a sweet, girlish
voice, and Annabel Geste slowly framed
herself in the darkness of the staircase.
"Was that Mr. Toplif, Annabel?"
"It was, mamma."
"Do you know it is twenty minutes
after eleven?" came in cold tones from
the wrappered figure in the upper hall.
"Mamma, we hadn't the slightest idea
it was so late," said the young lady ear-
nestly.
"You see," she continued, Mr. Toplif
has been telling me about China and
Japan. He said everybody ought to know
about the war, and it was so interesting
we never thought bow late it was getting.
Do yon know mamma," added the sweet
girl, as she reached the landing, "that in
China they—"
"Did Mr. Toplif draw a map of China,
on your face, Annabel?" asked Mrs. Geste
sternly.
"Why, mamma?" said the daughter in
startled tones.
Tho young girl rushed to a mirror and
saw with horror-stricken glance that the
left side of her face was streaked and
stained with ink.
"Heaven and earth," she screamed, "his
fountain pen must have leaked into his
waistcoat pocket!" and with a shriek of
horror the beautiful girl fell fainting to
the floor.
Safety and Life Depend Upon
Paine's Celery Compound.
We must sympathize with and pity
the poor, weary and jaded sufferer
whose life is made miserable and al-
most unbearable in the hot weather.
The healthiest of us have all we can
do to withstand the enervating efforts
of scorching days and sweltering nights
The sick mortals—heaven help them—
must suffer increased agong during
these hot days !
The troubles that bring low the
majority of people at this season are
nervous prostration, nervous debility,
dyspepsia, indigestion, headache, and a
host of trials that result from impure
a -id poisoned blood.
The above troubles attack men and
women because their supply of nerve
is almost exhausted. Loss of this nerve
force and feebleness is at the root of
nearly every case of sickness.
A true nerve medicine is what is
needed if health is to be restored, and
the dark grave avoided. Paine's Cel.
cry Compound is a perfect and unfail•
ing restorer of nerve force and power
to the I1 eakened and debilitated system
It quickly cures prostration, sleepless
nets, headache, dyspepsia, indigestion;
it cleanses the poisoned blood and gives
new life and permanent vitality and
strength.
Paine's Celery Compound combines the
most efficient alternatives, laxatives
and diuretics, and soon restores the
sick one to complele health. To -day it
is earth's most reliable medicine: it is
made for your special case, poor suffer.
er, and its use will implant that state
of health you are so earnestly longing
for. As there are vile liquid imitations
sold in many places, insist upon your
dealer giving you " Paine's," the kind
that cures.
Tne Bicycle Foot.
"I have heard a great deal of the bicycle
face," said an observing member of a local
dry goods firm yesterday, "This alleged
bicycle face may be a fact and it may not,
but what I have observed is the bicycle
foot. This is no myth, for I have a practi-
cal experience with it every day. I can
tell everyone of our employes who is a bi-
cycle rider, as they come into work in the
morning. This is particularly noticeable'
Monday mornings. The wheeimen some-
times forget that they are not pushing the
pedals, and in consequence they put down,
their feet with considerable more force'°
than other men do. When you see a man,'
in his normal condition, stamping 'around
the floor digging his toes in you can wager'
he is a wheelman. I have studied the;
matter carefully, and have won several".
