J3.LC; TYROX0 IN MANITOBA.
The contention that the majority in
Manitoba ought to rule in educational
matters, is a clear and simple one,
whether it is right «or wrong. But it
Seems to involve a similar proposition
in respect to other 'proviuees. When
Mr. Clarke Wallace, or Mr, Dalton. Me-
Carthy, or Dr.Sproule or Rev. Dr. De-
,rut claim this privilege for the ma-
jority in Manitoba, they suggest the
question whether the majority should
not rule in Ontario and Quebec. On-
tario has a separate school system and
there, has been no attempt on the part
of Rev. Dr. Dewart or Mr. Mulock, or
Ron George W. Ross, or Mr Charlton
to get rid of it. Yet these men all hold.
that separate schools are theoretically
wrong, They Safi?l not deny that a
:arge majority of the people of Ontario
would perfer a sectarian school system.
The majority in. Ontario do not give
the force of law to their educational
views. . If this is hecaluse they do not
wish to impose their views upon the
minority, then they would he expected!
to show some consideration for the
minority in another province. If :hey
would. like to abolish separate schools
at home but consider themselves motel
'hound to adhere to he compact o

the Union Act, tbi;n the majority does

The New York Journal of Sunday, pub-

The article fulls three pages of the jour-

The confession is in part as follows:
Daring the past few months the desire
has been repeatedly expressed that I make
a detailed confession of all the =aver
crimes that have with such marvelous
skill been traced out and brought home to
me. I have been triedfor murder, con-
victed, sentenced, and the last step of my
execution upon the nth of May, namely,
the reading ofmy death warrant, has
been carried out, and it now seems a d
ring time, if ever, to make known the de-
tails . of the twenty-seven murders of
which it would be useless to longer say I
am not guilty. In the face of the over-
whelming amount of proof that has been
brought together. not only in one, but in
each and every case, and because in this
confession I speak ut:y of eases that. have
been t eel of no other.

in eh -10h I believed I,ebonld meet Mrs.
Dietzel, holding in my hand some heavy
winter underwear, which I' had bought
for the little boy, already dead at Indian-
apolis.
I immediately took them to the St:
Vincent street house, and compelled them
both to get within the large trunk,
through the cover of which I made an
opening, Here I left them until I should
return, and at my leisure kill them. At'S
plan. I returned to the house where the
children were imprisoned, and ended
their lives by connecting the gas to the
trunk. Then came the opening of the
trunk anti the viewing of their blackened
and distorted faces,' Then the digging of
the ty1; o shallow graves in the basement of
the house, the ruthless stripping off their
clothing, and their burial without a par-
ticle of covering but the cold earth which
I heaped upon them.
There is little more to tell. The next
day was passed in burning the children's
clothing anti in resting from my terrible
night's work, and upon the 27th I called
on an expressman and had the trunk re-
moved from the house, and, after giving
the keys to a neighbor, went, away never
to return.
Prom Toronto I went to Ogdensburg.
and from there to BurlTitgton, '-t., where
I hired a furnished room for Mrs. Pietzel's
use,and a few days before my arrest in Bos-
ton wrote her a letter, in which I directed
her to carry a bottle of dynamite that I
had previously left in the basement, so
arranged that in taking it to the third
story of the house it would fail from her
hands and not only destroy her life, bat
that of two remaining •childreu,whom
I knew would be with her at the rime.
This was anylast act and happily did not
