The five snits of clothes stolen from

The baud made a splendid turnout
on Tuesday night. The usual open air.
concert will be given Friday night this
week instead of Saturday.
Mr. Chas. Weir, London, was award-
ed the contract on Tuesday by the town
council to lay a store pavement in front
and extending from one end of the
granolithic walk to the other.
The sore -arm fakir, of whom we made
mention -of in last week's issue, was ar-
rested in Loudon last week and given
two months in jail. Doctors examined
'the arm and pronounced the sores to
be self-inflicted.
Writs were served on Friday last on
the Corporation and Board of Health,
of the town of Mitchell, at the instauce
of Logan, claiming $700 damages and
$40 costs in connection with the See•
bath small -pox case.
A! lively fifty yard foot race took
place between the Mayor of .Elimville
and one of our citizens. commonly
known as "Elk Trainer" on Saturday.
The latter. however, proved too much
for the Mayor and won the race by a
few feet, '

The Turnberry, Agricultural Society
are trying to arrange for an excursion
over portions of the London. Huron and
Bruce, Kincardine and Palmerston, and
Buffalo and Goclerich kyles of the G. T.
R., to the Model Farm Guelph. If ar-
rangements can be completed. it is
ex
pacted that the excursion
will be held
the last week of the present month.
Jno. D. Atkinson is getting his ma-
chinery in good running order. On
Tuesday last his new engine was start-
ed for the first time and it is a beauty.
It is a 16 -horse power Leonard Autorn•
atic built by the Leonard Co, of London
Mr. Atkinson expects to have all t1it
machinery set in a few weeks and will
then be able to meet the wants of all
his
tomos.

Mr. F. Hess, of Zurich, former reeve
of Township of flay, Huron Co,, came
to Berlin e'esterday on his road to the
Lutheran Conference in Elmira. He
called at the Wolper Hoise • which ho
has heard so much of, and was surpris-
ed to note the progress of the town dur

-. Fruit: Tree Spraying.
A. H. Pettit, of •Grimsby, who has
charge of the spraying experiments or-
dered by the Ontario government, says
they are spraying the fruit trees in
thirty counties, ten in the east, ten in
the west and ten in the north, and are
now going over the 'ground for the
third time. So far, Mr. Pettitsays there
is practically no trace of any kind of
disease, and the present indications are
that fruit tbis year will be of excellent
quality. These experiments are meant
to be instructive, and bear the same re-
lation to the fruit industry as the trav-
elling dairy does to the butter trade.

American Congress of Religion and
Education to be held at Toronto from
Friday July 19th. to Tuesday July 23rd,
An interesting program has been ar
ranged and some of the ablest and
most prominent speakers of the day
from different parts of United States
and Canada will participate in the de-
liberations. We notice among the num-
ber the name of our old friend Prof
Gregory H. Torn, of Vancouver, B. C.
and son of our respected citizen Mr: Jas.
Tom.
Hansen was a lively town on Friday
on account df the anniversary of the.
Odd Fellowship and the meeting of
District No. 15. Representives from
the western district were present, be
sides the Clinton Degree -team. At
the time appointed the H:ensel! team
took the floor and exetnplitied the In-
itiatory Degree and put three through
the work. This team . did the work.
thoroughly and in passing out was.
applauded by the visiting brethern.
Clinton team then took position on the
floor and gave the first degree of Odd
Fellowship and put four through the
work. This team has only been at
work for five months, but the manner
in which ..• they gave the degree will
over be remembered by those present.
The next District' meeting will be
held in Seaforth when Godericli and
Stratford will exemplify the work,

not will shortly be issued.(lIt'is entit-

gives in plain, simple language a short
account of the Executive, Legislative,
Judicial, and Municipal Institutions of.

their origin and developement. The
book will be illustrated with numerous
engravings and autographs, and being
the work of so eminent an authority as
Dr. Bourinot, will be indispensable to
those who wish to be well informed
about the affairs of theDominion. The

the Scottish Demonstration on the 26th,
