Will ltieet Feb. 14.
The Ontario Legislature will meet on
Wednesday, Feb. 14, On Thursday
afternoon 'a Cabinet council was held
and on the same night Sir Oliver is•
sued an order summoning the House
for -the transaction of business on Feb.
14. It is understood that Sir Oliver
disregarded the importunities of many
of his followers who urged him to go to
the country at once, before the P. k'. A.
and the Patrons of Industry became
factors that might prove embarrassing
to the Government. Sir Oliver had
likewise promised at the last session
that there would be another session of
the Legislature before a general elec-
tion. It is likewise presumed that he is
anxious to redeem his pledges to abolish
minority representation for Toronto and
give the city increased representation.
Already active measure are beim;
taken for the general election, which
will follow close on the heels of the
dissolution of the Legislature. Yester-
day afternoon Jetnes Sutherland, M. P.,
the Liberal whip in the Dominion
Ilouse, and Mr. A. Smith, the Reform
organizer for Ontario, Were •1n the city
and held a morning conference wit h
the Ontario Cabinet. Messrs. Slither -
land andSmith
are stopping at
the
Routh, where it is understood a council
of war is in progress. Said a promin-
ent Government official yesterday: "It
is not likely that the .session will be a
snort one. 'There is niways a great
aceumulation of business to be disposed
of in a final session, the Government
naturally wishing to go to the country
with a Wean record and accounts all
posted, Besides, the members, with a
general election drawing nigh, are
anxious to put themselves on record by
long speeches, which may serve them as
campaign literature, The new Patrons
of Industry members, ton, may prove
obstructive, and altogether, I think,
that the session will not be an unusu-
ally short one." This was also the
opinion of a prominent Conseryative
politician who was interviewed yester
day afternoon. Ire said: "The Gov-
erment has a lot of business to get
through. Of course it will be hustled
through as quickly as can be, with
decency, but the members will be anxi-
ous to talk for the information of their
constituencies. There are some of the
Government snpporters who ba ye inde-
pendent opinions, on the matter of
prohibition, for instance, and the recent
oyerwhelming vote in its favor may
induce them to come out boldly in a
way to embarrass their leaders. I
think that altogether the newspapers
will have a lot of work to do this
session."—Toronto Empire.
