In the present day we want our eyes and ears to do something in guiding our actions. I have no sensational adver- tisement to put before my customers and the people in general, but only to say : that our shelves are supplied with good and seasonable wearing apparel, comprising :- THE LATEST IN EVERY THING. of Women's Ladies' Beaver Mant- lings in black, brown and fawn ; also navy blue. Ulsterings, black, brown and gray ; white Astri- chans. Ladies will do well to rememper the largerange of Black hosiery we carry Come and see our range All -Wool Black hose at 25c per pair. We can fit you from head to foot, not with shoddy, but with values that will meet with your approval I do not propose, however, to do as sonaetimes seen advertised to give you two dollars worth for ono, but I will give you value for your dollar. a. P. or..a.P.mm. commumCATIONS. The Editor does not necessarily endorse the sentiments advanced in articles under this beading. Eseetneree Enrron,-I notice ill your parer of several weeks ago an article "From an occimional Correspondent" about Mr. Dubb's visit to Crediton, which in the in- terest of truth, (mile for a reply, sumo it is full of gross naierenreeentations respecting our people in Crediton, autl is a severe at- taek upon the ohareater. of our Christian Seeley and church here. By your kind permission, I desire to make some gate- meuts of facts as tonehing this matter so grossly misrepresented. 1. The said correspondent is indeed so thoroughly acquainted with the church he tries to speak of, that be does not even know it's true name, and calla it the German Evangelical oburell. I presume his wisdom intended to speak of the 1Svangelioal Ass°. elation of North America -a church nearly one hundred years old, with upwards of ono hundred and fifty thousand members, an institution of learning; Missionary enterprises whieli in their aggressiye spirit stand second to none in the Christian world, having tier operation in America, Europe and Japan ; its Publishing Howie, situated in Cleveland, Ohio, worth over ball a mil- lion dollars, lending its publications in both English and German languages to almost all parts of the civilized 'world; a Publishing House in Germany, Europe, of almost thirty years standing ; church pro- perty of over six million dollars; composed of twelety-fonr or twenty.five annual con- ferences. And yet thia wise correspondent, knowing very little, if anytlaing, of the history:of thie church, pretends to give your intelligent readels news of something he knows nothing ab9ut.1, 2. He refers to the cause of the trouble In the Evan. Aaeooiation, and says: " Con- siderar trouble among the loaders of the church, d the result has been a split." Indeed, -ary short and sweet. The feats are ethese : In Feb. 1890, charges of im- moral oondnot were brought against Mr. Dubbs, and investigated by the church of which he then was a Bishop; he was found guilty of the chargen and suspended from office as Bishop and Preacher of the ;Evan. Association, and at the following General Conference) held at Indianapolis, Ind., Oct. 1891, was expelled from the church. Since his suspension, Dobbs, with his friends, arrayed themselves against the church, fiercely attacking her officers and. institu- tions. It so happened that this expelled Bishop has a few friends in Crediton, who have for some time snpported this rebellious movement led by Dubbs, and have, against the wish of the Crediton Society, invited Dubbs to hold meetings and assist them in their opposing work. This expelled Mabee came, and according to the report of "Oc- casional Correspondent,"held those glorious gospel meetings of peace and good -will to all meu, while everybody knows the inten- tien was to thrust this expelled Bishop to e aggravation of the Crediton church it, this man, found guilty of gross alitiee, upon thie respectable Chris. iety to bring about discord, and if , strife. The deed was evil and il and an insult to all loyal members church. . This "Occasional Correspondent " sea his balance altegetber schen he *w- ears as "Saul among the Prophets." It would be well to jut know the Christian tending of this religious enthusiast. Hie eermonie gusto of wind, however, fails al- together of its mark, and his spirit of in- spiration must be of a very low kind. What a pity! But it is of no use to go into all the silly details of this defender of the faith; talking of peaoe and his own article is inteuded to rend asunder the hearts and homes of the people. He even admonishes "to feel more like worshipping the man," 1 would refer him to Acts xn, 21-23. If said correspondent can find any pleas- ure in defending seen thiuga, than either his head or heart must be very much biased. 1 hope the former. ' With these statements of facts I shall drop the matter, having done my duty in the interest of the cense of God. Thank- ing you, Mr. Editor, for your valuable epee°, I remain, Gnu Wno KNOWS.
