ior DunnS—Last Sunday, the Rev.
Dubbs of Chien° preached in the English
Methodist °burgh in the morning, in the
afternoon in the town hall in the German
language, and in the evening in the same
place in the English language, the three
services being largely attended. It appear-
ed that the more he preached and the
longer he stayed in our midst, the larger
was his audience and more generally was
he liked, and all who had the pleasure of
hearing the old veteran and war horse
preach tpeak well of his abilities and
straightforwardness. He is really a won-
derful man and displayed nothing but the
best wiehea to all mankind, whether they
differ with him or not and wished his
enemies (if any) God's Blessing and good
will. Perhaps your correspondent ahould
explaiu metiers a little mere fully. The
German Evengelistio church has had three
Bishops, and is an Aseeeiation composed
of thousands of good and true people. The
last four years there has beers considerable
trouble among the leaden° of the ohuroh,
and the result has been a split, and some
of the different congregations believe one
side is correct and home the other, and
there ilea been thousands of dolling spent
in ohnroh suite and public law suits. The
vault being that ill feeling has sprung up
among the raembera of local congregations.
And somalled Chriatiane • (?) so far forget
themselves as to nse the most infamous
language towards each otAser and the
result will be, unless this feeling °Saw,
that father, mother, son and daughter will
be garrelling about their church. %his
feeling has been in existence here for some
years and ultimately has come to a head.
The Crediton oongregatioia has been very
large and. last Sunday for the firat time
some were seen to go one way and geme
the other, and your oorreepondent does
not desire to say what some of their feelings
were, but if their expressions are any guar.
antee as to what their thoughts were, Loot
save us from such a religion. This :is ct r -
Minty a strange age we are living in,people
who have stood ehoulder to shoulder and
battled for the cause of Cheistianity so far ,
forget themselves as to lay the whole of
their religion (?) before people who do not
pretend to be Christians and their influence
ars church people is all in vain and of no
avail. When it was first learned that the
Rey. Bishop Blabs was miming here, a
melte humber of narrow minded people
opposed his presence and did everything in
their power to prevent his receiving an
audienee last Sunday. In feat the presid.
mg elder had to be brought here to bold
the congregation together. And the pop-
ple wore told if they attended Dubb's
meetings the elder would have his opinion
of them. Nevertheless the church end
town hall were packed, especially in the
evening, People could not find room and
had to leave. But to the surprise of all
Bishop Dubbe was not the man that some
people expeoted to see and he preached
three zoning, soul -stirring sermons, and
expounded the Gospel pure and simple, re-
questing his hearers to see to their Soul's
salvation and leave ohuroh diffioulti• e
alone. All who attended were moved end
pleased, and no doubt had some of the
people who were opposed to him personally
heard the earrocam and not had any ill -will
towards him wonld have been moved to
tears and lauded him as one of the beet
preachers in the country, and telt noon like
worshipping him than passhig opinions

Chriatia,n- Now dear friends of Crediton
have lived in your midst all noy life and
have looked upon the most of you as hon-
est, sincere people, but do you believe that
because you are differing and. not able to
agree, Our Saviour is going tp divide His
Glorious Mansion aud give you each separ-
ate apartments in Heaven. Why not bury
all these troubles and follow the lines of
the Bishop's last Sunday and love your
ne'ghbor as yourself and work for the
ealyation of souls. I know that some peo-
ple attended those meetings lag Sunday
pure and simple out of curiosity, and were
hitherto oppoeed to the Bishop, but were
favorable to him now,and at the olose of the
meetings spoke nothing but kindness towatds
him as a preaoher, and wiebed him God's
131essing in his undertakings. It will he
hardly necessary to say that the kind-heart-
ed Bishop, who is giving his time and
talent free to the church and interest of
God's work,received a respeotable collection
for his expenses.

MEN OF EXTRAORDINARY NERVE
AND FIRMNESS OF PURPOSE.
Amongst men who have forced their way
to fame and fortune, we may name, as an
example to all, worthy of imitation, the
famous and.justly celebrated Thomas Hol-
loway. better known throughout the "wide'
wide world" for his Pills and Ointment.
Of these medieines is is not our purpose to
speak—we are not writing puff, but gelid
plain fads, to show what can be done by
-great strength of mind; and that what one
man has done another may do, provided
that he has the ability and determination
to ukit with all his soul!
-We read of the Great Napoleen, whose
ambition as to conquer the world, but
Holloway leas done something else, for,
instead of '„shedding oceans of human
blood, he htie oured his thouaands, end
spread great joS,. among the poor sons and
daughters of afflotion. by his wonderful
Medicines ; and, lthough he does not pre-
tend to " raise tbq dead," yet he has given
strenpth te the hat and soundness 'to the
lame; and if he hat, not "opened the eyes
of the blind," he hail sootl ed the pain -worn,
and Comforted thosson the brink of . the
grave : and in the your quarters of the
globe, his preparatie:as bare found their
way—not by the fertile, of the sword, not
with the aid of legioriu, but have been
silently borue on the liosom of the old
ocean M our huge merchant ships to 'every
corner of the civilized world where suffering
man is to be found.
But to do all this gigantic work, to ac-
complish so wonderous a dead, required
much thought and ranch energy, for vdth.
out these combined, this mighty work
could not have been accomplished. And
thus he aid it There is a wise saying,
"Don't spare pzinter's ink 1" and Holloway
oared neither "printer's ink," nor rest
piles of the preaions metal, Gold He ad-
vertises in all the languages spoken., among
civilized nations—and whether you go into
France, Belgium, Holland, Pressia, Den-
mark, RUSsitt, Greece, Spain, Portugal,
Switzetland—nay, we might eay all the
kingdoms of the world—and in a thousand
tongues they talk of •• Holloway's Oint.
raent 1" We are filled with boundless won-
der and astonishment that one man, one

really done so, there must be some won-
