Columbus, who will attend the Columbus

Lieut. Mieklees, of the Austrian army,

Troy, Tenn., took a colored prisoner from
officers, hanged him and riddled his body
with bullets. fie was charged with at-
tempting to assault a 'white girl.
Major Magone, aged 82 years, has juet
arrived in Chicago from; Grant county,
Oregon, having walked 4. whole 2,100
miles to be present at the dedication of the
World's Fair buildings. He started in
July.

The Southern Pacific Railway Company

paid to the men who killed the Dalton gang.
It. is said that the rewards offered for the
gang, dead or alive, aggregated .$'9,000 eech.
ACCIDENT RECORD.
The body of Maggie Simpson was found
in the river at Owen Sound. She bad been
miseing several days.
Peter Inkster, a G.T.R. brakeman had
his left arm cut off by falling off' a train
near Hyde Park, He was taken to the
London Hospital.
trolley car conductor named Thomas
Snider, Itamilton, was caught between two
cars and so badly injured that he died a few
hours later.
Sixteen mules, which had been at the
bottom of a coal shaft at Pittston, Pa., for
four weeks, were found yesterday, alive and
in fairly good condition.
Capt. Lawlor, whoasailed in a 12 -foot
canvas boat from Baste' in June last for a
voyage across the ocean, has not been heard
from since July 3011* and it is feared he le
lost.
While D. B. Stickney of -Newburgh was
driving home from Napanee his horse ran
away, throwing him out of the wagon. He
received injuries from -which he died in two
hours,
Three men were killed and a woman
fatally wounded, and several persons shot
but not inortally wounded, at a colored re-
vival meeting near rulton, Mo., Sunday
evening.
The steambarge Nashua has been found
bottom side up in Lake Huron, 20 miles
from Bayfield. Not a trece of the crew
could be found, and it is believed all hands
perished.
The steamship State of Georgia, while on
her way down the St. Lawrence from Mont-
real to Quebec, ran on a rock near Cap a la
Roche, and so injured her bottom that she
had to be beached.
Mabel Springer, eight years of age,
daughter of Mr. 'William Springer, deputy
county treasurer at Detroit, was chocked
to death while returning from school by
sucking into her throat a wooden whistle.

Phe funeral of the late E. G. Powell
took place at London Sunday.
A lad named Ernest A. Knowland, of
Toronto, committed suicide by shooting
himself.
John M. Tinsley, of Agnes street, Toron-
to, died last week over one hundred and
nine years of age.
Mr. Joel Reamau, a member of the
Northwest Cabinet, and the oldest member
of the House; is dead.
John B. Cook, 40 years old, a native of
Galt, committed suicide in New York, ow-
ing to financial embarrassment.
The canon of Westminster Abbey haa
formally invited Hallam Tennyson to bury
his father i.n Westminster Abbey.
Mrs. Catharine Donovan died in the
Hotel Dieu, Kingston, on Tuesday, at the
age of one hundred and four years.
Mr. William Barchard, one of Toronto's
oldest residents, is dead, aged about 91
years. His aged wife survives him.
Edward W. Rowell, a popular reiident
of London is dead. He was a brother of
Newton Rowell, barrister, Toronto.
Wilbur Eugene Tefft, one of the most
prominent business men of Amsterdam,
N.Y., died of dipl3theria, aged 40 years.
George Efeintzman, painter, aged 67,
dropped dead while at work Saturday
afternoou in a furniture factory at Han-
over. ,
Charles Jones, a chief of a division in the
United States Treasury Department, drop-
ped, dead in the treasury building- at Wash-
ington.
William M. Runk, a wealthy whole.a,le dry goods merchant of Philadelphia„
suicided. He carried a life insurance of
8525,000,
James Glassford, aged 74, who came from
Scotlancl on the same vessel with the late
Sir John Macdonald and his parents, is
dead in Glenburnie, near Kingston.
W. H. Mills, an old and respected
resident of Guelph, died on Thursday,
aged 62. He was a prominent Reformer
and leading merchant of the Royal
City.
