The one hundredth anniversary of the
opening of the first Parliament of Upper
Canada was fittingly celebrated in Queen's
park, Toronto, on Saturday. A number of
prominent members of the Local Legislature
spoke.
The Dominion Trades Congress has decid-
ed to petition the Dominion Goverment to
submit to the people of Canada for decision
by popular vote the questions of the reten-
tion of the colonial status—Imperial Feder-
ation, independence and annexation.

In a pitch -in at St. Catharines Wm.
Young, G.T.R. engineer, was seriously in-
jured.
- Wm. Kerr, a 15.year-old Hamilton boy,
fell from a tree, and received injuries which
may prove fatal.
John Cunningham, Of Peekskill, was chok-
ed to death at Croton, N.Y., while trying
to eat a piece of raw meat.
Charles Clow was run over and killed on
the Brockville & Westport Railway, near
Lyn, on TVednesday night.
Twelve persons were severely injured by
a railway wreck near Lincoln, Ilia., Mon-
day night. Several may die.
Miss Mary Muma was touncl dead in her
father's orchard near St. George Thureday
evening. It is thought to be a case of sui-
cide.
Miss Annie, Robinson, of St. Catharines,
while drawing water to ileplenish a trough
for pouitty, fell into the well and was
drowned. .
George Mahler, a farmer living in the
first conansion of Delaware Township, com-.
mitted suicide on Friday morning by hang
