TIMES-ADVOCATE STAFF
EXETER – Huron OPP
Const. Liam Brennan
updated members of
the Community
Oriented Policing
(C.O.P.) committee at a
meeting Nov. 20 in
South Huron
council chambers.
After a slew of
break and enters
from South Huron
to Goderich since
June, OPP arrested
three men age 18-25.
They are charged
with several counts
each. Unlocked garages
and sheds were target-
ted and golf clubs and
TVs among the items
stolen.
A report of police
hours logged shows
investigations into
break and enters at
residences and a rob-
bery with a firearm
involved hundreds of
hours of manpower.
RIDE program
The OPP is gearing up
for Festive RIDE pro-
grams to deter
drinking and
driving.
Citizens can
request RIDE
checks be set
up in problem
areas.
Brennan is
encouraged by the
increasing number of
designated drivers and
people taking taxis. An
impaired driving con-
viction leads to higher
insurance rates and a
manadatory two-day
attitude adjustment
course costing $500
before the offender can
get their driver’s
license back.
Bluewater Coun. Marg
Diechert announced
she will no longer rep-
resent council at the
C.O.P. meetings since
Bluewater cut funding
to committee meetings.
Future meetings will
be held in South Huron.
Middlesex OPP Const.
Doug Graham will
speak at the Jan. 15
meeting about safe-
proofing your home or
business. Stategic
placement of lights,
fences, landscaping and
door hardware can dis-
courage thefts or van-
dalism.
Brennan suggested
consultation with
Graham about land-
scape design at the new
Exeter library could
have eliminated prob-
lems with skateboard-
ers.
