THAMES ROAD - The
Christian Development
Committee was in charge
of the U.C.W. meeting on
Tuesday evening in the
church basement. Joan
Morgan welcomed the 35
people attending and
opened the meeting with
the call to worship.
Kay Cunnington read
the scriptures and gave a
reading ‘Prayer Is’.
A reading ‘Focus on
Prayer’ was given by
Virginia Warwick.
Joan Morgan read
‘Reflection on Prayer’ and
handed out slips of paper
about prayer so everyone
could take part.
Kay Cunnington and
Joan Skinner received the
offering with an offertory
prayer by Virginia
Warwick.
Joan Skinner gave a
reading ‘A Canadian
Story’ and closed with a
Remembrance prayer.
Janis Richardson wel-
comed everyone as she
opened the business part
of the meeting. Beatrice
Dawson received the roll
call which was answered
by ‘A Sunday School
Memory’ and everyone
brought gifts for the
Christmas Bureau.
Marilyn Pym gave the
treasurer’s report and
Judith Parker gave the
Council report.
The Standing Committee
heads gave their reports.
Everything has been fin-
ished at the former
Elimville Church.
Pat Ballantyne gave the
nominating committee
report. It was decided to
have secret pals again
next year.
Alma Ballantyne,
Marilyn Vandenbussche,
Sandra Rowe and Marion
Cann served lunch.
Appreciation night
Thirty-three people
gathered at the church on
Wednesday evening for
appreciation night. They
enjoyed dessert, coffee
and cider.
Melonie Miller wel-
comed everyone. Bruce
Delbridge gave a reading
‘Chocolate is a Vegetable’.
Marilyn Vandenbussche
played the piano and sang
‘The Great Speckled Bird’.
Marilyn Pym showed
how to make beeswax
candles.
Marjorie Johns gave a
reading ‘Oh To Be Six
Again’. Melonie Miller
gave some readings and
Grace Pym led a sing song
with Marjorie Johns at the
piano.
Rev. Marilyn Carter and
Melonie Miller told some
jokes.
Sandra Rowe provided a
nature table with a log
cabin quilt, place mats,
candles and dishes.
Melonie Miller, Rev.
Carter and Karen
Etherington each told a
story.
Ray Cann and Bill Rohde
passed collection plates
around which were filled
with chocolate bars. Rev.
Carter closed with prayer.
The Outreach
Committee, Janet Coward,
Karen Etherington, Diane
Jeffery and Melonie Miller
hosted the evening.
Church service
Rev. Carter was in
charge of the church ser-
vice on Sunday morning.
Raymond McKnight lit
the Christ Candle. Evelyn
Johns, Robin McKnight
and Brett Warwick told
about the mitten tree.
Ashley McKnight poured
the water into the bap-
tismal font. Helen Kadey
called Dennis and Cindy
Pym forward to have their
son Justin Andrew bap-
tized by Rev. Carter.
Kathy Bray presented
Dennis with a lighted can-
dle, Helen Kadey present-
ed a certificate and Helen
Weston presented a Bible
to the Pyms.
Ola Batten and Dorothy
Webber received the
offering and were the
greeters.
Announcements
A program ‘Handling
loss through the holidays’
is planned on Dec. 5 from
1 to 3:30 p.m. at Exeter
United Church parlour.
‘Coats for Kids’ program
needs winter apparel for
children of all ages and
sizes in need. Mitts, hats,
scarves and boots are also
appreciated. Coats should
be in good repair (no bro-
ken zippers) and prefer-
ably clean and can be
dropped off at Exeter
Cleaning Centre or D&D
Variety in Hensall.
In anyone is interested
in the old organ please
contact the property com-
mittee, Fred Delbridge,
Bill Rohde, Gerald
Cunnington or Paul
Warwick.
If you are interested in
decorating or acting in the
market place of the
Bethlehem Walk, please
see Carolyn Johns or
Sandra Rowe.
On Dec. 1 the
Community of Churches
choir will practice for the
Bethlehem Walk at
Thames Road-Elimville
U.C. at 7:30 p.m.
A program ‘Discovering
Christmas’ is planned at
the church on Nov. 20
(‘An Angel and Two
Babies’) and on Nov. 27
(‘Responses to Jesus’
Birth’).
The Youth Group will
meet Nov. 18 from 6:30 to
8 p.m.
On Nov. 19 a Community
of Churches Bethlehem
Walk meeting is planned
at Thames Road-Elimville
church at 7:30 p.m.
Messengers will meet
Nov. 21 from 7 to 8 p.m.
An overnight celebration
for youth, grades six to
eight, is planned from
Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. to Nov.
30 at 7 p.m. It will be 24
hours of fun and games
and faith development
centering around the sea-
son of Advent at the
Lambton Centre. Cost is
$40 per person. See the
bulletin board for regis-
tration forms.
The Bethlehem Walk is
planned on Dec. 6 starting
at 7:30 p.m. at the church.
Personals
Sympathy is extended to
the Smith family in the
passing of the late Ray
Smith.
Bill and Rhoda Rohde

Glenn and Marilyn Rohde.

EXETER - The
November meeting of the
Exeter Chapter of the
Order of the Eastern Star
#222 was held at the
Masonic Temple Nov. 13
with Worthy Matron Jean
Easton and Worthy Patron
Don Easton presiding.
A reading on
Remembrance Day was
given by Les Hills,
Associate Patron. Jean
Easton laid a wreath from
the Eastern Star at the
Nov. 10 ceremony. A
donation was also given to
the Legion.
Danielle Knip and
Shawn Talbot were pre-
sented with bursaries at
commencement on behalf
of the Eastern Star by
Jean Easton.
Since Ingersoll Chapter
is closing, an invitation
was extended to their
members to join Exeter.
An Eastern Star open
house is planned for Feb.
16 at 2 p.m.
Exeter Chapter has
decided to join Clinton
Chapter for a 2003 Bowl-
a-thon for arthritis
fundraising.
Donations are also being
made to the Christmas
Bureau and Jesse’s
Journey.
