Pot-finding program
success
ORILLIA – From July 15 to Oct. 15, the OPP Provincial
Marijuana Eradication Program seized 56,000 pot plants, 22
weapons, cultivation and harvesting equipment and laid 109
drug charges against 47 people.
A full-time leased helicopter provide aerial surveillance
over western Ontario, targetting large, sophisticated, but
often obscure growing locations near marshes and rivers.
Detective superintendent Jim Hutchinson says, “The loca-
tion, removal and destruction of seized marijuana plants has
a definite impact on organized crime.”
Halloween vandalism
HURON – In Zurich, some tomatoes were thrown at a
house and in Exeter, Huron OPP received a report of youths
throwing objects at vehicles.
The Seaforth Fire Department was called to put out a fire
when someone threw a
flammable substance into a swimming pool. The pool
cover and lining were melted, causing extensive damage.
